So I'm trying to get my visa re-issue number but the city in South Korea is denying me entry based on charges that I was never convicted of. I never commited a crime in my life and I got pulled over. But due to lack of any evidence whatsoever, it got dismissed completely. However it is still on the background check. From what I know, I am being denied a visa because it merely says the words marijuana possesion on it. The hogwan I applied to says I can get a job in any other city, just not Daegu. Is there anything I can do about this? Are these simple words going to haunt me forever? It's ridiculous because the charges were completely dismissed! |

ACCURATE.
Get it cleared or pick a new country (unless you are on an F2/4/5).

Even though I've already taught in Korea for a year, it still doesn't matter? |

Even if you have taught for a decade in Korea.
It is NOT up to Kimmi to figure out what your not clear file meant or what some foreign justice system means with the remarks on someone's record/file (and they won't).
Unless you can get a national check that is clean (says "no derogatory remarks") AND with an apostille affixed you won't get a new visa.
With the Korean provincial governments cutting back funding (lots of PS NETs will soon be looking for work) and the expected influx of MORE fresh "economic refugee" grads from the States they can afford to have a blanket policy of "0" tolerance for any "not clear" CBCs.
I see China (you can get by with an out-of-state CBC), Thailand (same if it is asked for at all), Indonesia or a return home in your near future. Japan is also an option (no CBC required) but the market is tough to get into (surplus of NETs there too).

well they said I may be successfull in a "liberal city like Seoul" but we'll see I guess. I've been waiting 4 months on cbc/apostille/immigration and i'm sick of wasting my life. I got a Masters in TESL and I'm not going to go out without checking all my options. |

With a MATESOL you can look at an E1 at a uni (CBC not required) or ...

That totally sucks, but maybe I can find a job at a University. Can you tell me more about the E-1 and university thing? And Thanks for listing other countries as well. |

How did you get there in the first place if you had this charge? |

It wasn't on my State CBC because all charges were dismissed. But it was on the Federal CBC, which is now required by Korean Law. |

The federal shows all charges whether you're guilty/notguilty/charges dropped. So to say that Korean City Immigration doesn't read these things is ridiculous. |

Man that sucks balls. Sorry to hear. I have dismissed charges too but in Oz it hasn't turned up on my check. Maybe jump ship and go to china, they took my mate with a dui on her record.
Good luck |

I have worked in Korea for about 4 years and even got a visa before with a DWI on my record from years back. It shows up on my FBI background. I am applying to a university. Is there something I could do? If they reject me, I am not gonna cry over it, I will find something else, somewhere else. I just wanted to know if you have any advice.
Should I attach something explaining something so my university could explain the DWI? No, I am not defending my past behavior or blowing it off. I could work for the US Government; they would understand and old DWI charge, but not repeated charges of that nature.
I do have an MA in TESOL, by the way. |
