I was offered a job at LCI Kids Club near Jamsil. Does anyone have any reviews/suggestions about this school?
Any information will help.
Thank You, Carly |

I looked it up and the one teacher I could find that listed it on her resume only stayed there 3 months... |

I'm finishing up a 1 year contract that I extended an additional 3 months. I had a positive experience there. I hear some complaining from other teachers, but not the ones who had worked at other schools before. Things aren't always run the most efficient way and advice on anything of importance isn't payed any attention to, but it's comparable to some of the best jobs I've had (and I've had many jobs in many fields in my life).
Pros:
- We're ALWAYS paid on the 10th of each month (earlier if the 10th is a holiday or weekend). I've never heard of any problems of payment in any way.
- I received my month of bonus after I finished my 1 year contract without a problem.
- My co-workers were very patient with how slow I am at my work and they tolerated my loud, booming voice.
- There are only two times a year when they expect you to attend a function outside of school hours. One is after school and one is on a Saturday. Both times, they give ample warning.
- The kids, staff, and co-teacher are generally awesome.
- The video cameras watching the classroom have actually saved me a couple of times. It showed that a kid didn't get hurt while she was in my classroom, although she told her parents it happened in the classroom (it was a pretty big cut on her chin, yet I nor any kids saw it... but that wasn't enough for the parents). Another time, it showed why I didn't see a kid bothering another kid (I was helping a 3rd kid get ready to go home). These events weren't as dramatic as they sound, but I was still happy to be exonerated in both cases.
Cons:
- I'm a slow teacher, but since I was popular with parents they gave me a full schedule with very little preparation time . I still had the preparation time given in my contract, I was just jealous of the people who sometimes had an extra hour or two a day to do extra things for their classes
- The Jamsil LCI is of a higher caliber than most kindergarten hogwans. They expect more evaluations of students. Morning kindergarten gets weekly comment booklets you must fill out every week. Other classes have student reviews every 3 months. They occasionally throw in additional projects and evaluations merely for the sake of appeasing parents who need immediate satisfaction for the money they spend.
- The regular hassles of inflexible schedules, having only 1 sick day a year, occasional impractical requests, etc.
Overall, this is a great hogwan. It doesn't represent all LCI schools since they are all run by different directors. Goodluck! |
