|
|
Hiya, my friend and I want to teach in Busan starting December 1st.
I have searched Dave's and couldn't find a good "Where to Start Looking" guide.
Obviously there is the Job Posting Board on this site, but it seems like it's mostly populated with adds from recruiters.
Which brings me to my question: where should I start looking? Assuming my friend and I have a good idea of what we want, should we just start spamming recruiters with our resumes and evaluate offers when they come through? Or is there some other method i.e. a site where schools post ads directly? Or maybe I should do both?
I was wondering if maybe there was a forum post or site I could reference for guidance, or barring that, maybe get some help from the forum vets!
Thanks for reading! |

Tell us what you want?
Do you only want to teach adults and live in Haeundae ? |

LOL....
Unless you can read, write and speak Korean the chances of a direct hire from abroad without using a recruiter are just about "0".
Looking for jobs down south, here or try pusanweb.com .
IF you are IN Korea (or familiar with the Korean school calendar) then you should also know that schools go on their winter break in late December and, with the exception of a couple weeks in Feb., don't return till the new term starts on March 2nd.
If you want a hagwan (language academy) job then have your documents in hand and start hitting up the recruiters. They are pretty dead in Dec. but pick up in January with their "intensives" and then the new term in March.
Start looking about 60 days before you actually want to be here (unless you want to get stuck on the recruiters' "ignore the tire kicker" list).

Interesting that Agent Cooper joined this site 4 years ago and yet doesn't seem to know what he's doing.
Please tell us what you want. |

@Tigerstyleone: I'm not sure what's interesting about it. I thought about ESL in Korea near the end of university, so joined the forum, did something else for 4 years instead, now I want to go. Not very interesting.
@ ttompatz: thanks for the useful information! So recruiters are necessary, okay. We want to teach in hagwans, and we're getting documents together now. I was not aware that hagwans had slow and busy hire-periods (but it makes sense), so that helps as well.
Regarding where to live in Busan, I have read some about different neighbourhoods, but it's difficult to discern truth about these places, as it's always through the filter of the poster (i.e. maybe we are not similar people and I would see things differently). My question is though, if we decide on some Gu's we'd prefer and some we would like to avoid, how specific should we be in our applications to the recruiters?
Last question: is it a good idea to apply with as many recruiters as possible, or do we just want to keep it to a few...? |

hello,
If one can read, write and speak Korean..how can they apply directly to hagwons/schools? Just wondering. I haven't seen any site or anything where you can apply directly. (It's usually through recruiters)
If you know any info, please let me know. Thanks. |

Apply to as many recruiters as you can. Then, if you don't like the offers, you can't weed them out. And pusanweb is a great source for jobs down here in Busan. |

Do a naver search for hagwans in the area you want to work in and contact them directly. Same with schools.
