Lotus Lantern Festival
One of Korea's major and more colorful festivals -- the Lotus Lantern Festival -- gets underway Friday in Seoul to celebrate Buddha's birthday which falls on May 26 next week. The Lotus Lantern Festival, which originated in India, was first celebrated in Korea 1,000 years ago during the Koryo Dynasty (918-1392) when households erected tall posts to hang lotus lanterns days before Buddha's birthday.
