On my utility bill, I have had a 2500 Won charge that says "TV" on it. I figured that was my cable bill. Then I get see a 33000 deduction on my paycheck that id for internet. I look at my internet bill and see that it is 33000 - 15500 for internet and 14500 for cable, with a 3000 surcharge of some kind. I ask a Korean coworker and he tells me that the 2500 utility charge is a charge everyone pays just for owning a television. Seriously? I don't doubt him, but is there a reason for having that charge?

yup, it is a surcharge that everyone pays on each tv they own... same as in Japan and the UK. Actually, it is for the "free" government run channels like KBS etc...

you only need to pay for it if you have a land connection. if you have IPTV you can get them to remove the fee. that's what I did
