My current contract finishes on september the 14th. However my new job starts on October 28th. Slight problem there as you can imagine.. See it gets even more complicated though. My visa is an E2-2 13 month visa and its expiry date is the 14th of october. My Arc Card is just as problematic as its expiry date is the 14th of october too. What i need to know is if it is possible to do a visa transfer in this scenario. In most normal situations the ARC and visa expire around the time the contract ends. Not one full month after.

If i cant, what is involved in doing the good old japan visa run?

Transfer the visa when the old one ends to the new job.
Anything else is too expensive, unless you're willing to spend 45 days in Japan (I would but its expensive)

Just get your new school to put the start date earlier in the contract. Then extend next year with the same school to finish the contract. Should be no problem so long as the new school is willing.

I thought the transfer had to be done within thirty days of the end of your first visa? Or is it only dependent on your contract dates?

Yeah thats whats confusing me. Usually the arc or visa expire near the contract end date. But i myself have never heard of anyone being in the situation i am in.

Ok the plot thickens. My new school and recruiter want me to return to the uk after my contract is up and get my visa there. i absolutely dont want that. I went there for summer vacation and have no intention whatsoever of returning there anymore than once a year. Its an expensive and pointless waste of money. How the hell do i make them see sense in bringing my contract forward? They want to move it back to november the first.
