Is there a website or somewhere that I haven't seen where I can see adverts for jobs posted by schools, not recruiters? I'd like to do my own job and apply directly and speak to the administration personally. Is this possible, or can I search for that on eslcafe.com somehow?

main portal for Koreans looking for jobs in Korea, on line, is unsurprisingly called 'jobskorea'.

IMHO you're trying to do it the hard way.

About 80% of the administration at schools in Korea (public, private or language academies) don't read, write or speak English.

IF you don't read, write or speak Korean and you are not in Korea (can't walk down the street and literally bang on doors) then recruiters are just about your only option.

On the other hand, if you can communicate effectively in Korean then look on Naver for listings of schools and/or hagwans and fire your bilingual resume and cover letter off.

Thank you, I had no idea the directors couldn't speak English. How will I be able to converse with them about expectations and job issues? I have been having marginal success with recruiters but thought it might be good to research other avenues of applying.

Applying directly is usually better because you cut out the middle man and that means your director/boss can speak English. Since you can communicate with him he will feel you are more of a human being than "hired help/English monkey".

There are sometimes jobs for direct hire on the job board here. On worknplay and on craigslist.

So yes, most directors can't speak English well. This is how you will converse with those kinds:

Director: The parents are complaining.

You: Ok, what should I do?

Director: Fix it.

craigslist has a good selection of direct hire jobs

I just posted a job for my school there that is a direct hire and about 30% of the jobs posted there are direct hires.

make sure that you are checking craigslist seoul

LOL Laughing

Thank you for the chuckle.

This isn't Kansas there Toto.

Oh, and to answer the question, you will use a co-worker or recruiter to assist you in communicating with your boss who will then ignore you since this is a confusion (Confucian) culture and he is the boss and you are not.

Time to read the FAQs.
