Hopefully this means more cheaper flights to and from Southeast Asia!
CLARK, Philippines: AirAsia launched a new affiliate in the Philippines yesterday, promising to undercut its rivals on regional and domestic routes.
To minimise costs and avoid Manilas crowded terminals, AirAsia Philippines will fly out of a former US air base that had been turned into an industrial zone in Clark about 90 minutes drive north of the countrys capital.
We will be substantially cheaper (than our competitors), AirAsia Philippines chief executive officer Marianne Hontiveros said at the launch in Clark where she oversaw the arrival of the airlines first Airbus A320.
Although the launch ceremony was held yesterday, she said the airline was not expected to start commercial operations until October when it received its final flight certification from the government.

As long as they have regional jets to various other islands, who cares? Manila has almost nothing to offer anyway. That said, this will be fairly useless if you have to go to Manila's airport to get anywhere worth going to. |

I'll believe it when I see it.
AirASia has great fares throughout SE ASia but its fares to and from Korea are in "Korean pricing"., aka twice as expensive as need be or more. |

Sounds great for those going to the Philippines!
I can't wait for AirAsia Japan to launch - a hub in Japan promising cheap (aka SE Asian prices) fares to South Korea, China & Hong Kong. No more relying on Air Busan and their almost non-existent tickets, aww yeah!

I think the problem is that they only have one flight a day and all the good tickets get booked really early. |

I'm thinking that the budget carrier won't really take off until the proposed second and budget terminals are built and opened at Clark airport. A Filipino-Korean consortium is bidding for the project. |
