Just a couple of quick questions for those in Seoul,
I've quite a limited amount of weight left i can pack so if unless we're talking about a 100% mark up on products i will just buy them there.
1.)How much does it cost to buy good roll on deodorant in Seoul now?
2.)The same goes with good towels, is it still difficult to get good soft big towels there at a reasonable price?
3.)I'm 5'10" so are general clothes like ,
short sleeve shirts(15.5 neck) and
jeans (32-34 waist 30-32 leg) easy to get?
4.)Is there any other necessity that i'm missing that'll be difficult to get ?
What i have already is my laptop and hard drive, size 10 Shoes/runners, electric razor, boxers, socks, shirts, suit, jacket, a few books, little bottles of Jameson as presents, some toiletries and a box of Lyons Tea.
I really want to pack as light as possible and most stuff i've to buy new here before i move anyway. So the more i can buy there when i'm flush with cash the better. |

1) $4 (brand dependent).
2) $10 at home plus or e-mart. (maybe $12 depending on the exchange rate). 10k won for big, fluffy, bath towels.
3) yes. Shirt sizes (chest) of 105 cm are common everywhere. Same with your jeans.
4) IF you are brand specific/particular about your toiletries, bring at least a 6 month supply. If you are not brand specific then pack light and enjoy the flight.

Thanks, that's a big help.
Deodorants about the same price as here and not a brand guy so seems like i shouldn't have a problem.
I appreciate the help, doing the last of my shopping tomorrow.Getting excited about it now. |

1.) Between 4 and 8K depending on the store.
2.) All the big grocery stores have them: Emart, Homeplus, Costco. Costco has the nicest ones. About 15K for a big plush one.
3.) I'm the exact same size as you and I've had no trouble. Dongdaemun might run on the small side, but all the chain stores, Korean and Western, should have your sizes. I've had a bit more trouble with shoes. Not that they don't carry my size, they just always seem to be out on the pairs I like.
4.) OTC medications or specific products you may be picky about. If you're not picky you'll be fine. You can find pretty much anything now or a close substitute. |

I haven't seen brands of deodorant that I would use at all for less than 10,000.
I tried something called Rexena or something. It was 5000. It was a small roll-on that just crumbled to bits when I tried to use it. Awful. |

| I've seen US deodorants for 4,000 at black market stores in Songtan. They also have cans of shaving cream and gels for the same price. |

For those who may not have particularly easy access to a Costco, the best towels I've found here are part of EMart's 'Fine Quality of Life' sub-brand. It's sort of like a blend of Target, IKEA and Muji. Much nicer clothes than the rest of EMart too [no Daiz here!]. Their towels cost about 15K and are about the same as a mid-level product at Bed Bath & Beyond.
The only problem is that only some EMarts, usually in the nicest areas, have these sections. But there are a lot more of them than Costcos. And they are much better than the junk found in most Korean stores.

I would not voluntarily use Korean deodorant. It's not about the brand [my favorite is a type of Axe, so I can't talk] but the quality. It sucks. It sucks. It sucks. Seriously, deodorant is light and thin. Bring at least a couple sticks and save yourself a headache. Some of the people here will eat kimchee for breakfast, are you planning to join that 'rah Korea' team? There's a fair number of things here that are just bad, let's call a spade a spade. |

On this, I am close to the same size, and just remember to translate to metric. For shirts you'll see a lot of 95-105, and the sizing has a huge variance. You always have to try them on to make sure; 100 at one store isn't 100 across the street.
With slacks, what I see is that stores make all their pants one length [typically 32 [~82 cm] but a longish cut of that. If you need less length you either got to cuff 'em or take 'em to a tailor and have 'em hemmed.
Personally I stick to the 4 Global Horsemen of fashion: Zara, H&M, Uniqlo and Gap. 'Local' fashion for men is extremely dubious [as you'll see in your first hour walking around--way too many button-up short-sleeve shirts in ugly colors] and expensive too [think north of ~60K for a pretty basic shirt from an off, off-label Korean brand]. |

| It's been said before, but please please bring your own deodorant. Korean deodorant is made for Korean people who tend to sweat/smell less than us (or at least me). I've found getting western deodorant requires going out of your way and is very limited in selection. Considering how little space 3-4 sticks of deodorant take up in your bag, its absolutely worth it to bring it here. |

It got a lot cheaper compared to last year I think. I've seen Nivea roll on for 5,000 at various places like E-mart, drug store etc. Just bought 2 Nivea spray, 200 ml each for 12,000 at E-mart. Last year I paid almost the same price for one. |
