Hello,

Can a non-Korean child attend public school in Korea?

What I'm driving at is this... My fiance is Vietnamese and currently lives in Vietnam with her 3y/o son. I'd like them to join me in Korea. But the cost of international school is outrageous. Could the child attend public school here? Does anyone know?

Thanks

I think all children in Korea are entitled to a free education.
I guess it will all depend on the childs visa status.

...in the above scenario then the mother and I would be married and the child legally adopted by me. I work here on an E2

Shouldn't be a problem at all. Even children of illegal immigrants are allowed to attend public schools.

She'll get an F3 I believe and your kid will get an F1. As for if an F1 can attend public school, I'm not sure, but I think so. There might be a bit of a language issue for them in the beginning though. How old is the kid?

Actually, they will both get F3s (if they are the legal dependents of the sponsor).

AND to the OP: Yes, the child can attend public school (either the one you work at (if you work at one) or the one that they are in the correct area for.)

ALL children (up to MS-3) in Korea are entitled to public education without exception.
