What happens if you:

a) want to leave a teaching position?
b) can't get a letter of release? And
c) are hired by another university?

I've heard rumors about the consequences, but they're all conflicting reports of what happens. Here are some of the rumored consequences:

a) Some have said you're blacklisted from Korea for five years.
b) Others have said you're not blacklisted, but you can't get another position until your visa from the first position expires.
c) And other people have said it doesn't matter if you can't get a letter of release. You just have to leave the country, pass in your alien registration card and come back, then you're eligible to find a different job.

Can someone clarify this for me? It's useful information to have.

Both (b) and (c) are correct.

How can that be? Because when you leave the country and hand in your ARC as in number c your visa is cancelled. But should you stay in country or not hand in the ARC then option b applies.

HOWEVER the catch is that without a LOR you will very likely have to hand in all your documents again including a CBC, apostiled copy of degree....and all the other items.
