Hi,

I've just begun the process of applying/looking for jobs with Footprints... and they have told me that there is a job in Uijeongbu city.

Does anyone know what this city is like? I've been told it's on the Seoul Metro line, but outside of Seoul. Ideally I'd like to be in Seoul, but it seems like all the jobs there have been already snapped up. I had friends who lived and worked in the same sort of situation (in the burbs), and they loved it. But they were a couple.

Just wondering if there will be other ex-pats there, and things to do, or if I should maybe keep holding out for something in Seoul? (Also the hours are a bit strange, 4pm-10pm and 1pm-7pm).

Any insight would be GREATLY appreciated!!! Very Happy

It's a city that is about to be swallowed up by the Greater Seoul Metropolitan Area. so it is Seoul, but of the Old Seoul. Doesn't have the new-ness of Gangnam, Ilsan or Goyang. It is on the invasion path from the North so the military presence is heavy. personally speaking, that's a place too traditional, for me.

There's a small US military base there, along with many English teachers, so you''ll find friends. I think it takes like 45 minutes to get from there to Seoul Station on the subway.

As for the hours, those are typical hogwan hours. These are after school academies, so they start at around the time the youngest students get out of their regular public school, and continue into the night.

I'd pass on Uijeongbu. I visited that city late last year and got a bad feeling from it. You will find other expats but the good parts of Seoul are so darn far away. It'll take you around 1.5 to 2 hours to get to Hongdae and Sinchon assuming you like to party a bit.

Hold out for something in Seoul.
