I wouldn't put too much stock in that article. Come on it's not rare for foreigners to get spat on in Korea? Rolling Eyes

I've been spat on in Korea.

Guy on the subway. Giving my terrible stink eye.......then spat on my shoe while I wasn't looking.

It seems rather dated. You can spin going abroad however you want if you use anecdotes from decades prior.

I'm a big believer in give back what you get.

So one day a drunk old adjoshi was sitting next to me on the subway. I sat there minding my own business. He spread his legs wide to take up some of my seat, turned to me, grunted so I'd look at him, and then he belched right in my face. The people sitting across from me noticed this and started to give him the dirty looks. It's okay, I took it in stride and didn't flinch. When it was my turn to get off, I stood up right in front of him while he was still sitting, turned my arse to his face and ripped a colon cleansing fart right in his face. Then the people gave me the dirty looks. I giggled. It's not illegal to fart in someone's face.

This article has hints of truth with a lot of exaggeration.

However, a lot of people exaggerate "how awesome" their year living in Korea/France/Australia/Germany/China,__________(insert country) was.

I still recommend that people go and work abroad it they get the opportunity.

Oh, to be a fly on the wall (far, far away from the noxious fumes) when that happened! Classy! Wink

Yeah, got tedious toward the end, but the first segment and the derision of otaku had me cracking up.

Yeah, read the article, the spitting in the face was off the mark, but most other things rang true for some people, and not for others, as to be expected.

I think you guys are missing the point. It's not saying that if you move to Korea you will definitely, without a doubt, get spat on. It's saying that citizens of other countries will not necessarily greet you with open arms just because you're American/Western. It's just providing an example to show that xenophobia exists everywhere, not just in SmallTown USA.

Also, it's a comedy site. If you're just discovering that comedians often exaggerate for affect then I feel somewhat sorry for you. Just don't go over to the Onion and come here to list their inaccuracies, please.
