I want to send out my fingerprints and application form today, however, I am wondering if I need to include a return mail envelope for them or does the FBI take care of that themselves?

Definitely send one!!

here's what I did:

Send a pre-paid one to the FBI

send a cover letter asking them when they're finished, to send it to the Secretary of State for an apostille

send a prepaid envelope for the FBI to mail to Sec. of State

send another prepaid envelope for Sec. of State to mail it back to you

Or Here's a quicker route: Send it to the FBI, (with envelope), have them send it back to you, drive to D.C., and get the apostille yourself in 1 day (instead of the 4-7 weeks it takes by mail). If you live anywhere close to D.C., it might be worth it

getting the CRC is a very frustrating exprerience, get all your ducks in a row before you do it

How do you figure the costs of this? Wouldn't it be more expensive later on because they would add additional documents?

I told the post office to over-estimate the weight. I think the first trip will be around 3-4 pieces of paper, with 3 envelopes, then 4-5 with 2 envelopes, then 6-7 with 1 envelope. Pretty easy stuff.
