Hello guys this is just a brief excerpt with my experience to try to get my US motorola Atrix to work in Korea with KT.

So you decided to you want to bring a phone from back home to use in South Korea. This is what you need to do prior to leaving your country.

-Check that your phone can accept a sim card (sorry no CDMA phones) and make sure your phone can use WCDMA
-If everything works out there make sure to ask this guy if the phone can be used in korea http://twitter.com/#!/olleh_expats
-He is not always helpful but just try either way.
-Next if he says it is ok you need to unlock the phone which usually involves calling your service provider and asking for an unlock code or having to buy an unlock code on the web. You need to be careful with this because if the wrong code is entered enough times it will Brick(Lock) your phone for good.

Cool after you know the phone is unlocked, and a good way to check is to insert a different carriers sim card into the phone, then you can bring it to Korea.

In korea this is my story with KT
-I would strongly suggest to bring your unlocked phone to a KT global store because they should have an english speaker usually till 7-8pm. http://expatblog.kt.com/category/List%20of%20KT%20Global%20Stores

-You will need have 6 months left on your visa when you go to the KT store. Bring your phone, ARC, and a bank card/bank book to the KT store. I warn you now your bank account must be directly linked to your ARC not your passport ( I got burned one time by this ).

-You need to go to a store between 9am-6pm on a WEEKDAY because after that they will not be able to process your phone.

-You will have to do some paperwork, pick out your plan and then you should be all good to go.

As a side note I would recommend going to the KT store in Gwanghwamun just because they helped me out quite a bit with this process.

I hope this tidbit of information can help someone
