are all FBI checks stamped by the FBI automatically or only those which you have specifically requested to have stamped?
either way, will the SoS put the apostille on it (through a carrier) if for some reason it doesn't have a stamp?
is the FBI stamp an ink or embroidered one?
thanks. |

Think you're a bit confused on this.
First of all, no state office will apostille a Federal CBC. Otherwise why would anyone spend all the time or money it takes to get one from the State Department? The chain goes down [Fed to state] but not up [state to Fed].
Secondly, the WHOLE POINT of an apostille is the seal and signature. If you send a non-sealed document to them, there's nothing for them to certify. Look up the Apostille convention on Wikipedia.
You MUST specifically request they sign and seal the CBC, as they tell you on the DOJ page, and then send that document to the State Department ONLY for the apostille.
The FBI seal they use is one of those where they kind of make a bump in the paper in the shape of their emblem. |

I directly asked the people in the apostille office in my state's capital in person and they told me that they will apostille the federal background check. I live in Florida. Send it to the Tallahassee office and they will apostille it but you would have to get it notarized first. No one has reported Korean immigration not accepting state checks on the federal document yet, but they might in the future so just be wary. |

You have to request a seal (which is necessary to get an apostille) in a seperate letter sent with your fingerprints and application. If you forget you can fax them and probably should call them also. Once the CBC is processed by the FBI and sent off they will not place thier seal on it if you send it back to them. The seal is like a notary stamp. It deforms the paper. |

A state apostille does not certify the FBI's seal. It certifies the stamp of the notary who witnessed you signing an affidavit swearing your CBC is legitimate. States can certify the qualifications of their own notaries. Staple all three sheets of paper together and it's enough to impress kimmi. |
