I'm trying to do this on a budget and traveling with others is generally cheaper. I'm looking to do a 6-8 week trip...I'm flexible and open to travel ideas. Looking to experience culture and stay away from touristy areas, but also down to party.

Tons of good cheap guesthouses and drivers of all sorts are out there eagerly awaiting your arrival at your service. Affordable accommodation and transportation are easily had in SE Asia unlike back home. If you veer off the touristy banana pancake trail areas, then you get a sense of the scope of extreme poverty and filth the locals endure. There are many rural small town areas where you can stay in family owned bungalow huts and old guesthouses where people are super friendly and it's easy to chat anyone up. It's very affordable to go alone as they have many economical single accommodations on offer though it's more economical to go with a group on guided day trips requiring a car and driver. If alone, the Thai travel agents do something other countries just don't commonly facilitate. Let singles join a group of strangers who are mostly young European backpacker tourists enjoying their gap year grand tour. You might end up on Khao San Road upon landing in Bangkok which is commonly the start and end of these trips and nothing like any where you've ever been. Outside Bangkok, it's an incredibly nice setting to casually meet people and have a nice time. To get a sense of colonial times when the British and French ruled many parts, Myanmar and Cambodia are phenomenally interesting experiences.

I am hitting up Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and Cambodia from October 22nd until November 18th. I will be flying into Hanoi and flying out of Ho Chi Minh City. I will be traveling by myself aside from meeting up with a coworker in Thailand on November 3rd.
