idk but GameStop is like the only major retailed of Games except for small mom pop shops
if its cutting into their profit margin, i don't see why they shouldn't be allowed to do that in their retail store locations |

What they shouldn't be allowed to do is open a game box, tamper with it, and then still sell it as "new." That's fraudulent; the full contents of a new copy of the game are not included in that box.
Other than that, yes, they should be allowed to do what they're doing. It is still completely within their customer's rights to express their displeasure at such actions, both by spreading word of it to other customers, and by denying Gamestop their business. |

meh, it could go either way...you may see it that way but technically, the Game and everything else is still brand new
you could also argue that the game maker, for putting in said promo into their game, could possibly lead to future devious practices if allowed...why not put it on the outside or along the side of the game? |

The only meaningful difference between a new game and an unscratched, mint-condition used game is that the new game still has 100% of the content it came with, including coupons and promotions. The actions of Gamestop in this situation have far more impact on the customer than briefly popping the game CD into a game console would. It's not even a matter of whether they have to open the case or not; they're knowingly and intentionally removing part of the value of the complete product for their own benefit, at the expense of their customers.
You can defend your right to do this if you like, and you won't be wrong. Let's not pretend that these gameboxes are being sold with 100% of their original packaged value intact though. What you get if you buy this game at Gamestop "new" is exactly what you'd get if you bought the game used: the game CD itself, less one-time use promotions included in the original box. |

Have to agree with this. When I think of buying a 'new' game I think of getting a factory sealed game with all the promos and bonuses. If Gamestop wasn't happy about the Onlive codes they could have just pulled the game and refused to sell it. |

this.
what they're doing has to be illegal, and i don't know why it's not being treated as such. |

i'm indifferent and couldn't care either way since i rarely buy Games brand new anyway
if it really bothers you...stop buying Games at Gamestop and order them online somewhere and pay shipping which isn't more than $5 more dollars on top of $59.99 retail price of a game...without tax on most sites, its about the same
i get your point about but Gamestop doing something not 100% kosher but G.S. is the only brick and motor store i know of so whatever they have to do to try and survive, hope they make it past the blockbusters, hollywood videos, etc. |

so you have no problem with illegal and underhanded business practices? you're one hell of an ethical consumer. |

uh no, i don't have a problem w/G.S. doing One thing that Some people disagree with
people always complain about how low GameStop gives if you sell a game for cash vs. Store credit they offer a lot less (oh my god game stop is toally ripping me off highway robbery!!!)...get over it, their open 6 days a week and have to pay employees, pay for electricity, etc. - if it bothers you, sell it yourself online and make the extra bucks
its One thing that the developer put in...could they have contacted G.S. and informed them they were putting in something that directly competed with them? possibly...could G.S. not have stocked the product, possibly
to me its a big picture...GameStop and many brick and motor stores are dying or long dead i.e. the fore mentioned Blockbuster, Hollywood Video, Barnes and Noble, Borders, etc.
i like to walk into a store and pick up a video vs. watching Netflix all the time since Netflix just raised their prices and usually has a poor selection compared to any Blockbuster still left standing.
if you think its underhanded and illegal, STOP going to Game Stop....seriously simple as that, if it was something to b**** and moan about that was outrageous...i'd be with you but personally i don't care for the game, rarely buy games brand new @ G.S. but i do enjoy G.S. during game releases when they have a line of people during a midnight release and usually even have demos set up in store
these are things that sadly, probably won't be around for the next generation of Gamers |
