I live in an apartment in one of these big apartment complexes. I am renting from a Korean guy who I assume owns the place.

When we moved in, the apartment was completely furnished. Including a washer. It is one of those older Korean ones that turn your clothes into one big knot.

Anyway, It stopped working the other day randomly. It just doesn't turn on at all. I called our landlord and he said someone is coming to look at it. He then said we have to pay transportation and repair costs. Is that normal? Who is responsible to pay for something like that? Should I tell him I don't want to pay, or am I out of luck? Also, does anyone know how much it might end up costing?

Same thing happend to me, but it was an officetel. I had to pay half. It really depends on what you agreed to before signing the contract.

Mine cost 150,000WON to fix. But the landlord payed half to help me out. If it were to break again, I would have to pay the entire amount.

It also could depend on how long you've been there. Under 3 months? You couldn't have worn it out. But late in the contract expect everyone to look at you to pay.

I think he should pay. Why should I have to pay for his shitty washer. If it was new, yeah that makes sense, but it is an old shitty washer that other tenants have used. Now I have to pay for it and he gets to have his washer fixed.

Custom or tradition, it's annoying.
