Hello all,
I taught in Korea one year ago and plan on returning on completion of my master's in political science.
Will this master's help me get anything better than entry-level jobs?
Any info would be appreciated.
FYI I received 2.2 mil for reasonably short hours (2-9) at a hagwon previously and would ideally like something higher paid than that - is this realistic given the master's and one years experience? |

No, save your money. Only a masters in English or TESOL would be worth anything in the ESL field. |

Sorry, I should say that I'm not doing the master's to find a better job in ESL, only that I fancy one more year teaching English.
To clarify, I'm just asking if I can expect to earn more with one year of experience and a master's in political science. |

Hagwons will be reluctant to pay for than 2.2 a month for a new hire.
They can get babysitters all day for 2.1 so why would they pay you 2.3+ when someone else can with no experience and masters can do the same thing?

I did wonder if there might be any chance of an MSc being helpful in finding work teaching adults. Do you think it wouldn't? |

Teaching adults = 06:00-09:00, break, 18:00-22:00.
Do you really want to?
IF yes, then YBM and Pagoda are always looking for fresh meat at 2.1m.
Get on a plane and apply.
In today's market space, a M.Sc in an unrelated field won't do anything for you (maybe a 1 level pay bump in EPIK) and unfortunately now, won't likely even get you into a uni job.
Good luck. Try China.

A couple years ago, and unrelated masters could get a uni job here. Now, no. |

uhhh...no apply. See what happens. You never know. Just skip Seoul and be ready 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after the semester start date. All sorts of "openings" pop up then |
