I'm going to be in Germany (mainly Berlin) and was thinking of spending a couple of days in Poland. To be honest there is nothing that really stands out about the country for me but I have never been there.

Anything exciting or is it the Korea of Europe?

I spent a few days in Krakow - flew in from Berlin. Basically looks like a typical Eastern European city. Day trips to Auschwitz and the salt mine (pretty damn cool actually) - or you can even do both in one day.

Food and beer are good and cheap, as is the vodka.

Didn't feel like it was a "must visit" destination. Prague is more beautiful (but boring in my opinion) and Berlin is much more fun at night, but hey, it's not too far and in going there you'll probably actually be saving money over spending more time in Germany.

2-3 days...why not?

Hah, definitely insulting blasphemy. Yes, I agree with the above posters, you should go. I spent a month there and loved it. Very catholic, Warsaw kind of stinks, and the food is fairly bland. But other than that, it's a place I hope to return to some day.

As previously mentioned, Krakow is wonderful. It's one of the coolest cities I've ever been to. If you happen to be a relatively attractive man who, quoting rainism, has some "game," you should be able to land a stunner. Assuming you're into clubbing, nightlife, etc. Watch out for Polish dudes, though. They're an aggressive breed...

I know you said you're only planning for two or three days and Krakow will be the best city to visit, but I'll throw it out there anyway. I thought Gdansk was also an incredible place. It's close to a couple wild cities named Sopot and Gdania (spelling is probably wrong on that one). I had some crazy times there, and Gdansk has some solid history to it. Enjoy your trip. Probably will only stay for a couple of days at most so I will be too busy site seeing to try and score some Polish chicks.

Actually looking at the city of Szczecin in the north east on the German border.

I lived in Warsaw for six months, and kind of agree with the above posters. As the capital it really isn't as great as you would expect it to be. It does have a good nightlife and a good art scene, but for a visit I'd recommend Krakow. I believe you can get trains to auschwitz from there, if that's your thing. :/

If not I was told on the northern coast of Poland there are meant to be really beautiful beaches that the locals raved about, depending on what time of year of course. Me personally? I'd go for Krakow, its the most popular city and it is really nice to visit.

I liked Krakow, and don't regret going there, but for me it was a letdown after coming from two great cities (Prague and Budapest). It was good, just not as great as those two.

On the plus side it was cheaper there than in Prague or Budapest.

The tourist sites have already been mentioned, except for Nowa Huta, which depending on your interest level in Soviet architecture may or may not be worth a visit. Aside from Wawel castle it's the easiest site to reach in Krakow (auschwitz and the salt mines are farther out of the city).

Definitely go to Poland! I spent a month in Krakow and LOVED it. The only other city I've been to was Warsaw, and it was okay . . . but nothing compared to Krakow.

Some recommendations for Krakow:
-Wander around the city square and the cloth hall, sit and people watch at a cafe on the square
-See Wawel castle
-Visit Auschwitz-Birkenau
-See Krakow's really interesting Jewish quarter- a lot of it has been revamped into restaurants and pubs, but you can still see a lot of the old synagogues (at least one of which still offers services) and buildings
-Try a local brew
-Gorge yourself on pierogi

Anyhow, I've been to Prague and Budapest as well (also great cities), but I think Krakow has a unique vibe. You should check it out

Yeah I was a little underwhelmed by Nowa Huta, probably b/c I've lived in Korea for a while. I actually did think to myself as I was walking around it something like "I see this everyday out of my window," ha.
