|
|
I sent off my FBI BC to the DoS for apostille almost 4 weeks ago, and I haven't received anything back. The $8 check I sent to them still hasn't been withdrawn from my checking account, which means they haven't even gotten to my document yet. I called their office in DC and they kept saying they'd call me back but it's been two weeks. I had to contact my congressman to help with expediting the process, but I'm not really sure how much that would help. Has this happened to anyone? And if so, how'd you go about it?
I signed a contact with a school in Korea, and I have to leave by Aug 2.--I don't want to get resigned because of all this delay. What would you suggest I should do?
Thanks so much for everyone help! |

Did you send it in a way that has tracking (FedEx / UPS / Registered)? Can you prove they got it, if not, I would start on another ASAP and use one of the expedited apostille services to cut off a couple of weeks. |

Hi, there must be a huge delay or something. I sent mine off May 19th and my check hasn't cleared either.
Another friend of mine has just entered his SIXTH week of waiting with no check clearance. |

Wasegei1:I didn't think about sending it with a track number. I assumed it wouldn't take long since I got my diploma apostilled in less than two weeks.
Neziru: I sent mine off on on May 18th. I talked to my recruiter about the delay and he said a few of his other candidates are experiencing the same thing. Have you try calling the DoS? |

I haven't called. However, I am considering contacting my district Representative and see if there is anything he can do. I'm not sure how much good that will be though. |

The FBI says on their site that it could take up to three months to finish. After three months then you should start to worry. |

uh if you could read, they were talking about getting the apostille done at the us state dept not the fbi check.
on all these forms you should be using a courier like fed ex or at a min registered mail so you can track it and if it doesnt show up you can get with the shipper |

Neziru: If you call the DoS and ask for the status of your document, they'll let you know if it's being processed or not. I called today and my is being processed. They can't tell you went you'll receive it back, but at least you'll be at ease knowing they received it and it's in the system. |

I sent in my FBI Background check on May 13th, for an apostille to the U.S. Department of State in Washington DC.
I sent tracking and a signature confirmation on the letter so I know that they received it on May 18th.
However, on June 6, I received this email:
Your authentication request was received on 06/07/2011 by the
Office of Authentication at the US Department of State.
As of today, June 17th, I still don't have the FBI background check with an apostille. Is anyone else having a long delay?
I have emailed them twice, but I haven't received a response. I just now sent them a fax today asking the same questions as to where my apostille is. Isn't this only supposed to take 15 business days? I'm over 22 business days
If I don't get it this week, my school may withdrawal their offer to me |

On the FBI website, it states that it takes between 15 days to 4 weeks. They said mine is being processed but my check still hasn't been cleared. So I think I'm just in the system, as in they only filed me as mail mail received, but they haven't actually processed my document. I think that might be your case also.
If you call their office number, the automatic recording says they only process 15 docs per day. Which is not much--I'dimagine it's just a stamp, doesnt take very long to do. I also emailed them earlier this week before I called the DoS and has yet to get a response.
I'm nervous that the school might withdraw their offer too. Have you contacted your recruiter so they can inform the school of the delay? When do you leave? |

Wow...I guess I'm in the same situation as everyone here but maybe mine will take longer. I FedEx mine and it was received on May 31st. I looked at the website and it said all mail must go through a clearance and get X-rayed, so it should take longer than usual. But still waiting at 6th week when they promised 15 days is really ridiculous...I hope we all get our appostille soon!
How do you all get the number to call them? I called the number on their website and got a recorded message. My email haven't been answered either even though they said response within 48 hours. |

You call the same number that you got the recording from. Try to call after lunch time around 1:30pm EST. I think there's only one person working the phone, because I always get the same person on the phone.
I will try to fax them on Monday. |

Having been around the block a couple of times there are some handling procedures that just seem to come to hand without thinking. For instance, I learned a long time ago not to send document to anyone without using a method that allows for tracking---usually requiring a signature. Government officials are about employment and keeping their jobs and not necessarily about competence or efficiency.
Murphy's Law will tell you that loss of a document goes up in direct proportion to its importance and the urgency of its process. If its the only copy you have, and it has to be processed in ten days and you put it in a stamped envelope and mailed it ---I think I can pretty much guarentee that it has found its way into a footlocker on a Banana boat to Valparaiso by now.
FWIW: I sent off for my BC on April 29th and got it back on June 7th. I then sent it off to the DOS by Overnight mail. In the mean time I am working on pulling together multiple copies of everything else I might need.
In fact.....maybe I'll get two or three Passports----you know--- with different names and pictures and information.....so I can keep my options open, right?
Best Wishes,
Bruce |

The phone number is this: 202-647-5002
You've actually had someone pick up the phone and talk to you? How did that happen? What numbers did you press? Did they actually go look for your document(s)?
I will call them all day on Monday till I talk to someone if that's the case.
And for Bruce, you can't make a copy of your FBI background check. It'll show up as a "copy" and not be authentic. If they lose your papers, you're screwed. As for everything else, it is very easy to make copies of. |
