If you are interested in attending the appeal hearing next week of First Class Private Andre Michael Fisher, please go to the Seoul High Court next Tuesday morning, Room 404, and be seated by 11am.

Please enter the building and room with no more than one other person, and speak only in quiet Korean when in the room.

Seoul High Court is near Seoul National University of Education, subway exit 11, and about 200 meters along and on your right.

Yeah, i know that sounds kinda weird, but, apparently, if you speak loudly in English, you can be held in contempt of court (or words to that effect).

He's a foreigner, so he clearly must be innocent then. Right?

So there's an unidentifiable video, he didn't have the money on him at the scene, and others can testify to his innocence, as well as the cab driver dodging court three times. That doesn't sound like reasonable doubt to anyone else?

And really? $88 gets two years in prison?

First off, the man's rank is PVT. PVT is pay grade E-1, PV2 is pay grade E-2, and PFC is pay grade E-3. Fisher apparently decided to screw up before his first advancement. Yay, him. Rolling Eyes

Second, how many threads do we need on the same issue?

Third, what exactly do you intend to accomplish that cannot or was not accomplished by actually qualified legal personnel from the US Armed Forces observing this case?

Fourth, do you realize that the more bull slung by his supporters, the less people will believe he doesn't belong in prison?

Fifth, essentially none of what the Fisher's family is asserting passes the smell test. Most importantly, the account they relate about the alleged comment from Fisher's commanding officer is certainly not true.

Sixth, some posters on other sites (ROK Drop, for example) have questioned why this could not have been disposed of under the "blood money/apology money" system. Well, Korean law prevents police officers from accepting that if they're injured and, of course, the government isn't into getting such a payment when they have legislated authority to judges to mete out punishment to include incarceration and fines.

Seventh, also on other sites, some posters have made asinine comments about the caliber and qualifications of the SOFA observers.

Last: Gorf, did you not notice that there was another charge, that of damage to public property? The man was also convicted of destruction to a police vehicle. Additionally, the original charge included slugging the cabbie to take the money. Yeah, I can see how someone who commits the crime of theft of services, physically assaults someone to rob them, violently resists arrest, damages a police vehicle, and then refuses to show any remorse for it could easily spend more than two years for his crimes if he were to do all of that back in my home state of California.

I like how his sister claims they were at a club but they weren't drinking. Rolling Eyes

julian_w you really are going out of your way to find support for this fella... Are you related to him?

I hope he gets punished accordingly.. I'm sick and tired of grown men blaming alcohol for their idiotic behavior.

Here's a simple solution, don't drink stupid!

Hello, 'engrishprease.' Thanks for your question.

No, i am not related to Fisher.

I am sorry you are so sick and tired. I hope you feel happier soon.

It sounds like you and CentralCali have a similar kind of problem, somehow and for some reason making you and maybe others here quite bitterly negative. That's a bit sad and unfortunate. Cheer up!

Obviously, instead of accepting my happy open invitation to come to the appeal hearing, i would rather that you guys go and enjoy your freedom: do something that makes you happy, perhaps? Maybe get some fresh air and sunshine next week. Go to a lake-side with a friend and enjoy the view, look at the flowers and trees and enjoy the peaceful natural scenery for a while or something, okay? Life can be quite beautiful and the vitriol here is not really necessary, nor is it helpful.

Have a nice weekend, everybody!

This post of yours is simply an uncalled for personal attack on both of us. That would mean the only vitriol is coming from you. Any further personal attacks on either of us will be reported to the site administration.

Now, do you care to

  • actually address the points I raised?
  • realize that not everyone working in Korea has time off to attend a hearing in a city far from their employment?
  • realize even that not everyone employed in that same city can take time off to attend the hearing?
  • realize that Fisher does have someone, actual trained legal personnel from the United States Army, attending each and every court session to include any appeals, to observe and thus ensure that his rights under Korean law and the SOFA are not violated?
  • realize that Fisher was not abandoned to some third-world banana republic's farce of a judicial system?
  • realize that Fisher's account, as relayed to the public by his family, simply is not credible?

Sorry but I see Julian_W's point.

He didnt ask that anyone attend Fisher's court hearing. He didnt proclaim the guy was innocent (though I'm guessing he thinks he is innocent). He just posted the information if anyone had interest in going.

So your post was a little overboard.

How was Julian's response a personal attack. Tinged with sarcasm maybe but that doesn't even come close to a personal attack. CentralCali and another seems to think he's just as guilty as Julian thinks he is either innocent or wrongly done by.

While I can certainly understand the doubts to innocence there is more than enough to cast doubt on his guilt as well by any reasonable wayguk (and I would even say Koreans as well).

Finally, all our computers are equipped with a scroll button. There are tons of things all of us scroll past. Many people ask the same questions that have already been answered. CentralCali you have taken the time to enter the thread and read some thing you said you are tired of hearing aobut as well as ask for answers further contradicting yourself about too many posts about this topic. Neither of us is the forum cop. Julian's post didn't rise to the level of spam. It took more energy to write the post and get hot and bothered about it than it would be just to ignore it and be happier as Julian suggests.

I'm not sure if the guy is innocent or not... not enough info out there.

And I could care less if Julian had some personal stake in this. But I agree with Cali on one point... Why the need for so many threads on this?

I'd like to see all of this, plus updates, in one thread. No need to start new ones for ever stage.

This is a personal attack:

What are you on about here?

It wasn't I who said I'm tired of hearing about the case. Furthermore, where have I contradicted myself? I merely pointed out that there is no need for a plethora of threads, not posts, on the issue. Keep it one thread and, if need be, let it go onto the thread record on number of posts. If julian_w had kept all of his posts on the issue confined to one thread, one could follow the points people with familiarity with either the Korean judicial system, the US military judicial system, or both have been making and julian_w seems to be studiously avoiding.

@ Sirius Black: Thanks for your rational, level-headed observations and comments.

@ CentralCali: Wow, i really think you managed to miscontrue the intention of my message. I am a peace-lover. That is the whole point of all my threads and posts. I have many better things to do than trying to attack you or anyone else here. I am sounding a note of concern for you guys. You really sound kind of wound up there. I really hope you can relax, unwind a little, and have a peaceful and fulfilling weekend.

And, after the hearing, if you'd like to meet up over a brew of some sort to talk about all the points you've made above, please PM me so we can arrange to meet somewhere amenable to you.

Now, please, everyone have a lovely weekend, and let's take care of each other out there, okay?
