It has come to my attention that there are several travel clubs in the Seoul area that take people on pretty cool adventures for a small fee. Everyone seems to know about them, but it took me 6 months to figure out! So, for anyone who has not yet checked them out, here's the ones I know of:
Adventure Korea
Discover korea
Lost in Seoul
If anyone knows of others please post 'em up!

I can tell you that Adventure Korea has been accused of dishonest business practices towards foreigners. I can't remember the details, but there was some government program that allowed foreigners to take a certain tour for no charge, and AK charged people money anyway.
I have personally been with Adventure Korea once before I heard that, and while their buses were nice, it wasn't worth the W155,000 I paid for one day's worth of fun. Those groups are OK if you don't know anybody, but they are for profit so keep that in mind.
I joined Seoul Hiking Group on facebook instead. The leader doesn't make a profit (at least not a huge one), he justs likes travelling and speaks fluent Korean so he helps with all the planning/lodging/bus rides, and he often gets group discounts so it's cheaper than going alone . They don't just do hiking trips, they go all over the country and frequently have trips to Jeju, Busan, etc.... I've seen them do scuba diving, ice fishing, bicycling, pottery/ traditional craft shows, etc...I showed up alone not knowing anybody and made a ton of friends instantly, it's that easy. |

I know exactly what you are referring to, as I was booked on one of those trips. That being said, it may have been an honest mistake. Even if it wasn't, I've been on several other trips with AK and have found them to be well run and not much more than doing it alone. The owner is very nice and goes on a lot of the trips. I would highly recommend Adventure Korea. |

What were the details of the situation, can you explain? Honest mistake? Did they give you your money back? Did they explain why they made the mistake? |

I don't think Korean cubs have much travel experience. |

From what I understand, one of the Korean tourism agencies was offering free trips, and Adventure Korea said they were special 10th anniversary trips and charged a really low amount for them (like 55,000 for a weekend or something like that).
They did send out an email saying it was a miscommunication and refunded the money promptly. Whether it was an honest mistake or not, I'm not sure.
That's been the only glitch I've experienced with them. All of the trips I've been on (5 or 6 I think) have been well run, and the one time that I had to cancel, they refunded my money per the policy stated on the website.
Minus that one glitch, I've been nothing but happy with how their trips are run. They even gave us a partial refund when one of their hiking trips got changed due to bad weather. |

You're a more trusting person than me. When it comes to my money everybody gets one strike, and they're out...honest mistake or no.... I'm not hating on anyone who goes with them, but they make money off of you regardless. I'd rather go with the facebook clubs that make no profit... the people just organize the activities because that's what they love to do. |

But they're handy in case you're hungry and want someone to go swipe a pic-a-nic basket for you.
Insert Colbert bear joke here. |

Owner is Jin. Pick up/drop offs in front of Hamilton Hotel, Itaewon. Not as many trips offered as Adventure Korea, but there are other activities, besides hiking and festivals (which AK mostly offers). Also, smaller group size.

Non-profit. Organizer is Pedro Kim. He is based out of Gwangju, so this will be excellent for people who live in that area. He goes everywhere in Korea, but meeting point is always in Gwangju. Everyone shares the expenses equally. He will take only 8-10 people in his van. |
