I just bought a used daewoo nuvira 2. It's a 4 cylinder 1.5 liter car.

Just wondering how much it's would cost for oil and transmission fluid change.

I may need timing belt change as well. Any helpful advice from automotive experts will be appreciated. Razz

Don't have an exact price. Maybe 20,000 won. But get your own quote. Automotive work with domestic parts is quite cheap. But ask a Korean for advice on where a good shop is. ie. Honest.

I paid 100,000 for the transmission oil change, and about 40,000 for a regular oil change.

I paid about 30,000 for oil change in my tiny Tico. I recently got rid of that and bought a Sonata, but hasn't needed an oil change yet.

Transmission (including flush, filter, and fuid) was about 60,000.

Concerning the timing belt...I was told it was about 250,000. When I bought the car I specifically asked the guy about it..and basically he told me that if you can still see the writing on the belt from the factory, it should be ok. (assuming there are no visible cuts/tears)That said I would imagine the price would depend on the model, and how difficult it would be for the mechanic to actually get to it and change it.

Timing belt: when anyone buys a second hand car, unless you have a receipt showing the belt was changed recently, or it is chain driven, change the timing belt straight away. You can't see any faults that may have formed within the belt. It is a relatively cheap expense and you don't want to deal with an engine rebuild if it snaps. It is worth it, just for peace of mind.

Whenever I buy a car, it is the first thing on the list to do followed by engine oil, plugs, leads, air filter and transmission oil.

Thanks for all your replies. I went to a couple of shops and they quoted me 45,000 for oil change (oil & air filters included) and 100,000 for transmission fluid change.

When they checked my oil and transmission fluid, both shops told me that I needed to change the engine oil, but not transmission fluid since it appears it's been changed recently.

As for the timing belt, the mechanic opened up the cover and checked the inner and outer belts. Luckily, the last owner had the belts changed recently as well.

Although there were no maintenance record when I bought the car. I guess I lucked out with my new used car.

Thanks again for all your help.

Unless you have a receipt to say when they were done...I'd still change the belt. I've seen belts that looked fine snap...not pretty.

Hope it all works out for you anyway, happy motoring.

I've never changed a timing belt on a used car in my life! its too expensive... My 2001 Civic got to 300 000Km before I sold it, never changed the belt and I bought it in 2006 with 120 00km... I also never got car washes or cleaned the interior... yeah I suck at looking after cars.

Disclaimer: Don't do what I did. I make really bad decisions...

If your car has an engine with an interference design then yes you should consider changing your cars timing belt.
