I'm trying to get all of my documents ready so I can start replying to the job postings. I want to get my fingerprints done on Monday, but I need some clarification first.

This is the FD-258 fingerprinting form from the FBI site: http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/background-checks/standard-fingerprint-form-fd-258

It does not have any numbers printed on it. From what I have read on Dave's, it needs to have a ORI number on it for anyone to fingerprint me. Do I have the wrong form?

Also, any fingerprinting services in my city require so kind of... 'proof', I guess, from the employer wanting the fingerprints. How are we supposed to get around this?

Thanks in advance Smile

Print of the cards from the FBI site and do it yourself. That's what I did - no trouble.

I printed that sheet out and everything worked perfectly fine. Got my cleared CBC a few weeks ago.

I would suggest taking a couple of those pages with you, though. You never know when the technician might laugh and accidentally smudge your prints. >.>

Thanks for replying guys. I'll try to go to my police station tomorrow to get them done.

As for the FBI background check, why can't we go to the local FBI satellite agencies that are in most large cities? Will they not do them?

University police departments will usually do fingerprinting all day for free, regular PDs usually have restrictions, fees, and limited schedules.

^ Depends on station and country. My friend got his prints done for free and same day at the local city police dept here in the states while it cost me ~$120 USD at Scotland yard with a two week waiting period. -.-

I don't know about the FBI agencies, but local stations in smaller US towns should get you good results. ^^ Of course, if you are really in a rush, you can always call the station to see if they can do same day prints. If not, pick another UPD/town/station nearby?

AND just a hint- might see if your state does Fed apostilling for your FBI CBC. The state deot is having MAJOR delays (used to take two weeks, now it's backed up to two months). Again, depends on if you are rushed or not.

Hope that helps! ^^,

What about getting fingerprints done in Korea? Could you take the FBI form to a local PD or immigration office and have them done?

I didn't write anything in the "Reason for Fingerprinting" box. Is that okay?

I'm very interested in this as well. Anyone have any idea if it is possible to get acceptable prints done here in Korea???

Get a Korean friend and go to a "gu" police station and they will do it for free.

I've had it done in two "gu" offices in Seoul already.

Yeah, that's what i expected, I was just wondering whether having these done in Korea would be accepted by the US FBI...as there is a section on the form where the person taking the prints is supposed to sign.

I had mine done in at my local police station here. I live in a small village and the man in charge told me that I needed to go to a large police station to do it.

Since moving to Korea I've learned that getting to "yes" here sometimes can be as simple as asking a different person so a few days later when I saw the older officer leave I asked one of the younger guys and he didnt care.

I had to do my own fingerprints (they gave me an ink pad but I printed out the FBI form) but the guy signed off on it anyway.

It was all scribbled in Korean and I was worried that the FBI wouldnt accept it but they did.

Another friend of mine also lives in a rural town and he ended up using the ink pad in the town hall to take his own prints.

He then had his Principal (or maybe it was vice-principal) sign off on it and stamp it because I guess in Korea they they have some kind of public authority. I dont know if that last part is true but it worked and the FBI processed his background check too.

Yes. And you have the Korean dude sign there if he wishes.

I've had Korean and FBI fingerprints approved by the FBI. Just make sure you follow the directions (ie signing the card, DOB, etc.).
