|
|
A friend back home asked me to pick up the DVD set for some drama I've never heard of: 결혼 못 하는 남자. I guess that translates to "Man Who Could Not Marry?" Anyway, I don't really watch K-dramas, and while I know some of them are available for streaming online, I don't know where they sell stuff like this. A video store? Or is there an eCommerce store that might have what I'm looking for?
Any suggestions? |

Good lord, who would wish to spend their hard-earned money on purchasing Korean dramas. They are the bane of my existence. If the characters aren't screaming at each other, they're balling their eyes out. I find them (like virtually all Korean tv programs) unwatchable.
I don't know which is worse, K-pop or K-dramas. |

I find them to be a life-saver. My mother-in-law is strangely addicted to them. When she's over, she'll watch hour after hour without ever bothering me. Prior to streaming sites, I've literally spent thousands of dollars on a massive stockpile of DVDs for that very purpose. It was worth my piece of mind. Thank God I discovered the K-Drama and Dramafever channels on Roku and they are simple enough for her to navigate. |

You could have your friend buy the dvds directly via yesasia or other websites. The series is on streaming sites and also at drama wiki if your friend is torrent-aware. The series itself is decent. I've been accused of being similar to the main character -_-; |

I've never checked but wouldnt they sell some dramas at Emart/Homeplus dvd section? ( long shot but you could check. I guess you never know.) BUt i assume you probably want to buy dvds with english subtitles?
I order from YesAsia all the time ( not dramas. i order other stuff from them). Although its expensive to buy from them I've no other problems with their ordering system. they have alot selection and deliver on time.
Amazon.com has some korean dramas . You can ever do Instant streaming of these on amazon too. for like 1.99$ per episode if you really want to pay for them. Otherwise , just tell your friend to watch dramas online at the various asian drama websites.

As for other places you can order Korean Dramas. Im sure there are a TONE of online stores you can buy from. Just do a google search for "buying korean drama dvds" It yields some of these websites ( trustworthy? No clue... But there are a bunch of places to find dvd copies of drama:)

Also if your friend lives near any kind of chinatown in a big city. Tell her to go to those chinese video stores. They usually carry Korean ( bootlegged) dramas and everything else bootleg she might want to watch =p.

I'm guessing Roku only works in the USA??? Or are you using it in korea?
If in korea, does it work straight out of the box? or do you need to get an VPN to be able to access all the channels like HULU and what not?
I'm just curious. Would be cool if it worked from korea =/ |

I'm using Roku in the U.S. I did bring my Apple TV 2 to Korea and found that it worked like a champ. Maybe next time I visit Korea, I'll bring a Roku with me.
BTW, those two Korean drama channels also have websites where you can stream shows from. Only my MIL doesn't know how to use a computer at all. But she can navigate a Roku. |

If you live near a Kyobo Books (they are in several cities in Korea) they have a CD/DVD shop within every Kyobo Books called Hot Tracks which has tons of K-Pop CDs and Korean Dramas on DVD. However, most of these discs are coded region 3 which won't play overseas unless you have a region free player (which are pretty cheap these days).
Hot Tracks also have a great selection of foreign CDs, DVDs and even vinyl. I was surprised to see them carrying stuff like the Nirvana 20th Anniversary Deluxe set, the Achtung Baby deluxe set and Pearl Jam 20. It's more expensive of course but nice to know that I could pick up these things in Korea if I wanted to. I even found Kraftwerk's "Computer World" remastered on vinyl which I was never even able to find in the states.
If you live in the states, you can order Korean CDs and DVDs from Music Plaza in Los Angeles. They ship within days but the prices are about 30% higher than what you would pay in Korea (for obvious reasons). |
