|

Hi guys,
I am using an iPhone 4 bought from KT. Can I still use it if I move to U.S or Europe? I don't mean roaming. I mean putting in say a French simcard in France.
I've got a friend who took her phone to Singapore and it wouldn't lock onto any network. |

You need to have it unlocked. KT will do this for you if you have either paid in-full for your phone or if you show proof that you are coming back to Korea.
Actually, KT will authorize the unlock of your phone. You will do it yourself. If the phone is in your name, call KT and tell them that you want a country unlock on your phone. They will tell you what documents they want you to provide them. I just had to give them a copy of my return plane ticket. If the phone is in another name, then that person will need to call.
After a few days (one of mine was done in a few hours, the other a week) you will receive a message with instructions on how to unlock your phone.
Basically you do this.
1. Plug your phone into your computer and sync.
2. Take out the SIM card.
3. Restore your phone.
4. After restore, you will get a message that says you need to insert a SIM card into your phone to activate it.
5. Push your original SIM card back into your phone.
6. It will go through it's thing and then you will get a message that says "congratulations, your iphone is now unlocked."
You will have the option to restore your phone from your previous settings or set it up as a new phone.
I have done both with no problems. My old iphone 3gs is now in Peru with my sister (fully paid) and working without flaws on the Claro network. She just popped in a compatible SIM card. It was that easy.
Hope this helps. |

| My g/f did this when she went to Taiwan last month, and it worked flawlessly for her, with one exception. She wasn't patient enough when she put in the Taiwanese SIM and was freaking out that it wasn't working. When you put the new SIM in, give it time. Even 10-15 minutes. |

My iPhone is jailbroken. Is there a way to unlock it without restoring it as I will lose my jailbreak..
Also, it's a major drag putting my music collection back on there. |

Wait so, the iPhone bought in Korea can work in the US. I assume that's only with AT&T or other GSM carriers?
Can you bring an iPhone from the US to Korea?
I thought US iPhones wouldn't work in Korea but my Korean friends have been asking me to bring iPhones from the US so I'm not sure what the deal is. |

| US iPhones are carrier locked to AT&T aren't they? AFAIK AT&T won't unlock their iPhones, for any reason. |

It was true at one point that all the iPhones were locked to the carriers in the US, but Apple just recently started selling unlocked iPhones. |

True story, factory unlocked devices... yum. |

I have an Iphone here in the US (from AT&T). I'm due for an upgrade right now. Should I upgrade to an Iphone 4 here since I'm going to be heading to Korea in September? It will be cheaper to use my upgrade here ($200) than get it in Korea, but will it work ok?
I don't have to worry about the 2 year AT&T contract here because it's a family plan so it will be active whether or not I'm in the US.
Basically I want to get my Iphone 4 upgrade here, go to Korea and use it on their KT network (or whatever) for a year, then bring it back to use on my AT&T network after the year is up.
Is that possible? |

It's possible, but make sure you get the unlocked version! The standard "on-contract $200/$300" iPhone 4 from AT&T will NOT work in Korea (or any other country for that matter), as it will be locked to AT&T!
But yes, if you buy the unlocked version of the phone, you can have to registered to use it in Korea, then go back and use it in the US. ^^ |

I followed the instructions to unlock my phone, but no success. I paid the fees and got a message from KT, but tried everything, and nope, not working at all.
Hmmm. Anyone ever do this in Canada? |
