Considering a position in the area. Anyone spend some time there? |

My girlfriend lives there so I hang out there sometimes. It's not bad, on the whole. SNU is nearby, so there are a lot of bars and some decent Western restaurants, if that's your thing. Being on Line 2 and close to Line 4, it's got good subway connectivity to pretty much anywhere in Seoul, and is quite close to Gangnam and Hongdae. It's also pretty easy to get to one of the nicer parks in Seoul (Han River Park in Yeouido). I would recommend it. |

There's a lot of stuff around Shillim station. It's easy to get to Dorimchon stream and its bike paths (you can follow them out to the Han river). Yeouido and Kangnam aren't far away. Noryangjin/Yeongdeungpo are also close. Boramae Park is really nice and you're close to Gwanaksan if you fancy hiking. All in all I like the area. |

I have been visiting that area for about 8 years and actually lived here for almost a year~ I really like it because it feels low key while still having plenty of things and being close to everything else. It used to be a little boring, but in the last few years (maybe since they built podo mall) it really feels a lot more fun for younger people. Sillim station has a large mall called Podo with a nice movie theater at the top, Renaissance mall (has seen better days), and they are building yet another mall across from that. On the opposite corner is a great mini night life area with bars/hofs, multi-rooms, places to eat, and a club or two. You are also close to Borame park which is really nice and since its around the line#2 you can go to the hongdae or gaangnam areas in maybe 30 min pretty painlessly on the weekend and cab back home for not that much. If you head over to the first Seoul Uni station (maybe two stops away) you will be able to find an Indian place, Thai, and several other great places to eat.
The area around the "Fashion" street is filled with Izakaya places now, but a few streets around it and next to Renaissance mall can get a little shady at night, lots of little love motels and Noraebang Rooms~ but if you stay away from those streets its not bad. |
