Gosh.... Shocked ...not that it wasn't expected...sorry to sound like racism didn't exist before that incident...(it definitely did and does in Korea).

Korean Herald:
Quote:
An American English teacher says he was not allowed on a bus in Masan because he is black.

When Sintah Khalid tried to board the 110 bus on Sept. 2 at around 10:30 p.m. in Jungni, Masan, the bus driver demanded to know where he was from, before ordering him off the bus.

He begins shooing me with his hands in anger and says get off in Korean (naga) and I hear people chuckle, explained Khalid. Then I step off and he shuts the door and drives off.

He said a Korean acquaintance saw the incident and was shocked by it.

I dont even feel like I can get on the bus sometimes. I really feel like these things should be addressed, Khalid said.

I want some action to be taken against him because he is working for the public. He shouldnt even be asking where people are from.

I don't think that the bus incident created any new racism.

People who are not racist simply looked at the incident as being isolated. People who were already racist, well, that simply reinforced their racism.

So, I can reasonably guess that the bus driver mentioned in the article didn't have a high opinion of black people, even before the "bus incident".

Maybe the incident is allowing stupid people to justify their racism, though.

I notice, as a white male, that I'm getting more and more "looks" when I take the bus lately. Like everyone is waiting for me to flip out and cause a scene.

I really would have loved to be on that bus with that guy though. God, to have grabbed him by the dreads and yanked his arse off the bus would have given me so much satisfaction.

The bus drivers here are [Mod Edit] for the most part. I couldn't tell you how many times I am standing to be picked up and he drives by because he doesn't want to miss the light.

That dude's mistake was getting off the bus. He should've refused to leave.

This is out in the boonies, but here you have an African Muslim suffering for the behavior of an African American just because they have the same skin colour. It is ridiculous. It's ridiculous to do that to another African American let alone an African. Most Africans anyway wouldn't behaved the way the guy behaved on that bus. Of course, Africa is a huge continent with many countries. The guy should have figured we're not in New York City or Boston. It's one thing to respond that way in the U.S., but not in a foreign country, and it makes no sense to clock a 60 year-old male no matter what your color is...Some people might think what happened was funny, and this idiot should have thought about how his actions could affect other black people.

This is racial profiling in the worst way, and they were judging all people who were black. Similar behavior can be found in the U.S.

Wow, the least they could have done is allow him to sit in the back of the bus. Even 1950's America let them do that.

Very Happy

Or tell the driver, "You want me off? Call the police and your supervisor. Or you can simply do your job. Let's get moving. I don't have all day for you to be a bigot. I bet these other people don't, either."

While I totally agree with you, I don't think that the bus driver or 99% of the people on the bus would have any idea what you just said. Laughing

They'd probably only hear, "Do you see these rocks?!?!"
