How much money would you suggest taking for a Tokyo trip of 4 nights and 5 days? I won't party a lot, but maybe 1 or 2 nights.
I am going to spend the money mostly on food, subway fare, museums, maybe a baseball game and the sumo tourney.

How much is subway fare? And do they sell all day passes?

I went to Japan before, and didn't spend too much, but this wasn't in Tokyo and I had a JR pass.

US$200 per day (assuming your accommodation is included in the budget) PLUS $100 per night of party time.

If your accommodation is prearranged then you can get by on $100 per day + party money.

while i havn't been to tokyo, i did just come back from fukuoka. Anyway, hotel was about $90 USD for a lower end one.. subway was about $8 each way. A cocktail will set you back $20-30. Asahi tall boy from 7-11 costs about $8 too. Good luck

Drinking can get expensive, the liquor is pretty pricy there. For partying I'd figure at least $100 per night, and more if you plan on having more than a few drinks or like clubs.

The subway can also add up if you pay per trip, I think an all day pass is only 1000 yen.

Food depends again, if you want to eat on the cheap then it isn't too bad but expect to pay more if you want to try some more upscale restaurants.

500ml of Asahi (tall boy) was not $8. It was around 278 Yen (depending where you went), which is around 4 USD.

Can we surmise that the subway was also $4.00 one way and a cocktail about $10-15 ?

How much was the hotel? I'm guessing $90.00 is about right?

I'm asking because I'm thinking about going soon.

The subway was very expensive. The cost depends on how far you, but I didn't see anything cheaper than 150 Yen. However, you can get an all day pass for 1520 (I think?) that covers all lines or 1000 Yen that covers a few less lines. These passes are a must.
I cannot comment on cocktail prices, because I didn't party, but I was told around $10.
I spent about $40 per night on a hostel. I stayed in Shinjuku at Ace Inn. I highly recommend this place.
