I have an offer to work at two different school owned by the same person. I would work 3 days at one school and 2 days at another. The school are about 10 minutes apart. The area is in Cheonan and the recruiter advised that this is common practice....I have never heard of such a thing. Is this legit? Any pros/cons by doing this over working at a single school. Same 30 teaching hours per week.
Thanks |

Working at 2 hagwans is legit PROVIDED:
i) the 2nd one is noted on your ARC (report MUST be made to immigration within 14 days of the start.
ii) You have permission of the owner (shouldn't be an issue if they have the same owner.
iii) BOTH schools have their business registration in order (they are both legally allowed to employer a foreigner).
As to the pros/cons.... are you a newbie?
If you are, say no.
If you aren't, then you already know the answer to that one.

How far are both from your apartment? Do you mind traveling to the farthest location? That's basically what it amounts to. Once you get to the building, it's a building. I don't think it matters if it is north, east, south, or west.
The problem comes when they farm you out. Korea doesn't do this, but watch out if you come to China. They will have you teach at like 6 different schools. Instead of buses, they had us use taxis. We would lose about 2 hours of travel for each school. If you go to 2 schools a day, that's 4 hours. After a week you have done 20 hours of just traveling. After 3 weeks, I left the school that did this. This doesn't even include their scheduling where I would teach one class at 10am, and then wait until 3pm to teach 2 more classes. What the heck do you do between 10-3pm?
Fortunately, I don't think you will have this problem in Korea. You will meet students less often I guess, but the school is trying to get business. I wouldn't worry about 2 schools. If they schedule 2 schools on the same day, pay close attention to the time you lose in transportation. Then determine if it is worth it. |

Seriously? That is a TON of traveling! I hope the school paid for those taxi rides! |

Im in a situation sort of like that in cheongju. I work at a different hagwon owned by the same person but only one day a week. I really enjoy it as the secondary location is much more relaxing. |

If you are working for the same owner and just in two different locations and they are that close together, this should really be no problem. If the school and owner are good, both should be. If they are bad - both again.
It used to be required to get both locations on your ARC. But if you are working for the same owner under the same business registration number it is no longer required to file any paperwork with Immigration. You may legally work at all the locations. There was a thread on this a few months ago. |

I liked working at two locations. It kinda breaks up your week. |
