So I sent out my notarized criminal background check out 3 or 4 weeks ago to Washington D.C. to get apostilled before sending it off to Korea for my visa issuance number. My position starts in 5 weeks and I'm beginning to get very nervous.
When I call to check on the status, an auto-response pops up saying that due to the high volume of requests, they cannot take any inquiries over the phone then it sends me to an message inbox that is full. Basically, there is no way to check the status.
I'm thinking about contacting my local representative tomorrow AM to see if they can look into it, but other than that, I'm not sure what I can do. Help! |

I was able to speak to a lady and she said they are processing requests made in April. So if you submitted your request 3 or 4 weeks ago I would
bet they'll get around to it in November, but then they'll be on holiday so maybe December, but then there's Christmas so maybe January if they don't loose it by then. |

I would go and pick it up in person if someone in the state department could tell me if I could retrieve it. I would have to fly in. I would if they could tell me I'd get the document from them. I don't want to spend 300-500 dollars on a plane ticket. I was told by the department of state that it could take up to 8 weeks to get my apostille, which is absolutely insane. It seems unfair considering others only two weeks only a month ago! I even paid a service to try to retrieve my document, and it's been 7 business days and nothing.
Nothing, man! They acknowledge it (via the tracking) to have received it on July 28th. |

You may have to wait up to 4 more weeks. I hope not. I am in a similar situation. I mailed mine off 2 weeks ago. They then took a week to acknowledge it. They don't answer their phones. An answering service simply says it can take up to 8 weeks. It's just nuts. If some human being could tell if I could extricate it, I would fly in, but even a service that is lining up everyday to try to get my document out of there has not succeeded 7 business days after trying. |

apostille pros is some dude in a dented hatchback with a ponytail driving to dc. don't be fooled by some faux official website. you fools.
also california WILL aspotille your FBI CBC. i've done it TWICE, kimmi has accepted it, and just got another FBI CBC back in the mail which will go to sacramento as well. don't waste your time doing the apostille through DC. FIND OUT IF YOUR STATE DOES IT AND SAVE TIME. |

From what I understand, apostillepros gets an apostille from the state of California. |

Sorry man, but you either gotta wait it out or start contacting your congressman's offices. Mine took 9 weeks, and most people have been actively saying not to use the DC DoS for this for a long time. If you can somehow get another FBI check, get it done at the state level, it'll still work. |

I am in Rick Perry State, they don't do it from what I understand. It would have been nice if I were in Cali. I have to fly in and do this and get my document that I mailed in. Wish me luck. I will let you know what happened within 2 days. |

You don't say anything about the method you used to send it to the US State Dept. and that can make a big difference.
Anyway, I'll tell you my experience to see if that can help you figure out your situation. I sent it via FEDEX. Since that has tracking, I know it was delivered to the US State Dept. on July 5th. I included a FEDEX envelop and label when I sent it, so I did have a tracking number for the return also. They FEDEX'd it to me on Aug. 1st. That's one day short of 4 weeks from the time they received it until the time that they FEDEX'd it back to me.
And, yeah, calling them is worthless to try to do a status check when you're anxiously waiting.
If you used some other method of shipping, this info will be of very limited value to you. |

I am gonna wait in line tomorrow morning bright and early. I do have a tracking number priority mail USPS. If I could do things differently, I'd have flown in the first place. I suppose the FBI exasperated me, and I was in a hurry. It is my fault. I should have called the DOS before mailing it if they were slowing down. I take responsibility for that error. They are now saying it may take up to 8 weeks. |

They will not be able to help you. They're behind, and stopping to look for one piece of paper in the mountains of paper they have is not going to happen.
A tracking number from the USPS means nothing. Once it's in the door, they stop tracking it. |
