Hey guys
I finally cashed in on a humongous Smart TV that was on sale and now want to buy something to play, but not sure what system to choose
I still have wii, but it looks horrible on that screen because the wii graphics are extremely simple and actually look terrible enlarged.
so it's between a PS3 and an xbox 360 i guess, but i cant decide what to pick
ps 3 seems to have more games and more rpgs that i like, but xbox 360 is slightly cheaper and has kinect which could be useful
any ideas?
thanks |

Ummm, I have an Xbox 360, have had for about 4 years now in Korea, and before I used to always recommend the Xbox over the PS.
However, these days, all the Xbox exclusives seem to have been ported for PC or over to the PS, and the PS still has some great games which haven't made it to Xbox.
I'm not sure, but also I think the PS3 has a little better hardware (at least compared to the older white Xboxes, don't know about the new slim models) so there's the potential for it to be better.
That said, I use my Xbox for HDTV and the picture is fantastic. Ultimately, I'd recommend you don't worry about which has a better picture, because they're very similar, but base your choice on which console has the better games and so on.
I haven't played Kinect yet, but from what I've seen, it could be the choice if you have young kids or like jumping around your living room. The PS3's glowing ball on a stick thing seems to be a non-starter. |

Keep in mind ps3 games are region free while i believe xbox games are region locked.
ps3 is also a blu-ray player if theat floats your boat and i believe offers higher hd resolution than the 360.
if you play multiplayer games like call of duty, then 360 is the way to go.
but...ps3 is free online... however most of my north american friends prefer 360.
i'm a bit biased because i got rid of my wii for a ps3 and never really liked playing the 360 at my mom's place/friends' places.
then i went and got a 360 controller for my pc... so thats the best of both worlds.
in short - get a ps3. |

cool. thanks for advice!
I did have a PS1 back in the days and never had an XBOX, so I guess I'll go with trust Sony rather than annoying MS hehe |

one more question - how much are both of these consoles at Yongsan nowadays?
also, is downloading/burning games an option for both or only the Xbox360?
how does the modding thing work with these two consoles? |

Somewhat complicated.
The new black slim Xbox360 costs 250,000 new for the most basic model, more if you want a bigger hard drive. However, if you're interested in modding you probably want to try to get one of the older gray non-slim Xbox360s, since the mod is much easier to do on the older model.
For the Xbox360, you can download and play burned games by flashing the system's DVD drive with a hacked firmware. This requires taking apart the machine, which in turn voids the warranty. Microsoft has started to get more aggressive fighting against this. Some of the newer games include firmware updates that will reflash your DVD drive back to its original firmware making your console unable to play burned games anymore. They've also introduced a new way of detecting burned games. There are some ways around it. Its a constant battle between the hackers and Microsoft. The problem is that each time a new hack is found you have to take your Xbox apart and reflash the drive again. If you want to play newer games you really should learn how to do this yourself, because taking your Xbox back to Yongsan every month or two when a new firmware is released will get annoying very quickly. On the other hand, if you just want to play older games it shouldn't be a big deal. Also, playing online with burned games runs the risk of being banned from Xbox Live if Microsoft detects it.
I don't know as much about the PS3 since I don't own one, but I do know that you don't burn the discs, you play the downloaded games from the system's hard drive. I have also heard there are problems similar to the Xbox with newer games working, since many newer games require a system update that removes the hack which allows copied games to be played.
The Wii is much easier than both of these, but it doesn't sound like you're interested. |

cool thanks for the info! I already have a Wii, but it looks horrible on the new tv screen because the graphics are too simple...
so Xbox360 def. sounds complicated. can somebody confirm as to how it works on the PS3? |

All this, plus any blu-ray movies you get, US and Korea are both in Region A of Blu-Ray region coding.
I have all three of the current gen systems myself. |
