go to the main post office in Myeongdong; they have a stamp museum there which is quite interesting and you can also look at and buy editions of many stamp issues, current and older, special releases and so on.
the nearby underground shopping centre , Hoehyeon, also has many stamp and coin retailers.

You're bored and the solution is to collect stamps? May I use this thread to explain the difference between 'bored' and 'boring' to my students? |

I am a coin collector and a currency collector. I can't tell you much about stamps, but many of the shops that sell coins will sell stamps. You could check in the underground shops in the Namdaemun area. |

My mom works for the USPS and ever since she started (over 30 years ago) she has gotten first priority on special collection stamps, and also was able to buy older stamps from before she was born (1950). I've seen some crazy collections from the old geezers that have worked for the USPS for 70+ years or something crazy like that. They had a big news story about one guy because he had stamp dating before 1900. My mom's been collecting for me, but the stamps start from 1980 when I was born. |

Hi,
I saw your post and thought I'd send you a quick message. I'm into coins and moved to Seoul last year. I wonder if you're into coins at all? I wouldn't mind getting into stamps myself. I have a small stamp collection at the moment. Would be great to network with other collectors in Seoul.
Cheers!

I am in Gwangju. I am going to go to Seoul in a few weeks on a coin run with another fellow. We do say coin collectors or numismaticists. Any coin collectors? I did buy some interesting old Korean currency last time I was in Korea. I bought an old 5,000 won note from the 1970s, the large 5,00 won notes before they changed them for the smaller ones, I have a 10 won note, 500 won note, and I bought a bunch of different coins. You can find stamps in that area where I used to go to in the Namdaemun underground area.
Numismatics=coins. |

Molly, I just collect coins and currency. I did once collect stamps to a small extent. I don't know as much about stamps.
As far as coins and currency, I am a history buff, so that's one major reason why I collect coins. It's part of where world has been and where it is now. I find it fascinating say to have a coin from the 18th century for places that don't exist independently like Shleswig and Holstein, or former colonies like the Belgian Congo. There are also so many different designs. One of my favorite coins is the 50 franc silver coins with Hercules on there. I also like American and Canadian silver dollars. My favorite Canadian silver dollar is the British Columbia dollar with the totem pole.
What about you with stamps? |

Sorry I wrote that you collected stamps by mistake.
That's cool that you are into that. I think everyone should collect something as a hobby. I'm actually not really THAT into collecting stamps...my collection was really started, and is continued, by my mom. I am, however, a collector of anything owl! There's an awesome owl museum in Jongno that I visited once. The woman who owns it has been collecting owls for years and the museum is a small one-room building that houses her collection. When my friends or family travel, they always try to bring me back something owlish from that country! http://www.owlmuseum.co.kr/main1.html |
