A review of Deli English Camp
This is a review for any prospective teacher who might consider Deli (delicious) English Camp in the future. I recently completed a month long summer course that was located at Dankook university in Yongin City (subway stop Jukjeon). Overall I had a positive experience with this camp and would refer it to anyone if they were interested in teaching at a camp.
It was a very intensive experience and we were working 6 days a week from 9:00-4:30 with ten minute breaks every forty minutes. For the most part you pretty much had no time away from the kids. The course material left a lot to be desired but the kids were fantastic and there was a lot of time for games whenever the books didnt really fit the bill.
There were often moments of confusion and some miscommunication between the management and the teachers about what was expected but nothing that caused any real distress. The payment was on time and in full without any hassle although the thought of getting an advance is completely out of the question. Other teachers felt a lot of frustration about some of the miscommunication but having worked previously for a year in Vietnam I didnt find it all that big of a deal. Just always keep in mind that this is a summer camp and supposed to be fun.
We were all given a camp assistant (CA) who would help in your first class and in writing your performance for the camps closing ceremony. I was lucky in my experience to have wonderful staff of foreign teachers and CA (camp assistant) who were really fun and worked hard. A couple of teachers complained of having lazy CAs but at no point did they appear overly stressed about it. Given the amount of time you spend with the staff if you didnt get along with anyone then the camp of course would become quite tedious.
My accommodation was a single room on the seventh floor near the university. It was TINY!!!!! I mean it was bathroom with a bed in it. Just think it makes you more sociable, you do not want to be in your room. Again..it was really TINY. If you do decide to participate in this camp then be prepared for a tiny cramped room.
My recruiter was Scarlett from SeoulESL and she was prompt and answered all my questions. Other staff also had her as a recruiter and werent as impressed. Maybe I was lucky, she was nice and honest in dealing with me.

I also had a decent experience with Deli English. I was in Seoul at the Gagnam campus, a overall it decent. Scarett would answer all my questions with a question, though. She was a little annoying. Your experience was very similar to mine. |

How much did they pay for camp? Did they offer housing allowance if you didn't take the dorm room? |

I've read nothing but good things about Delicious English (despite the name), both camps and some 3-month program they have. |

They're currently in the process of expanding their kinder business as well, which is a good thing considering the fact that they never violate their contracts in the least. |

I think that for a short-term camp, I wouldn't care much about the size of the place I was housed in. I would worry more about bugs/noise/etc. Sounds like you had an OK experience. It probably wouldn't get much better than that with a camp. Hopefully they did the taxes correctly. |

Hi bluedenver, I'm interested in working at a similar intensive English camp this coming Winter. Would you be so kind as to PM me some contact info for someone at Delicious--perhaps that of Scarlett herself?
Thanks! |
