Does anyone know where I can pick a cooling pad from? Is Yongsan my only choice?

You can order them online. Otherwise your best bet is Yongsan or Techno mart in east Seoul.

http://english.gmarket.co.kr/challenge/neo_goods/goods.asp?goodscode=150209927&pos_shop_cd=EN&pos_class_cd=90000003&pos_class_kind=T

I chose the FS390-N because I think it was the highest RPM with a big (200 mm) fan. Came out to 7,000. Delivered right to my door. Took 3 days, if I recall correctly.

How dramatic are we talking about? Have you got any figures for your temperatures? For example, on my 7-year-old laptop, I hit about 70 degrees when doing "intensive" computing before it shuts itself down. The cooling pad doesn't help that. I have to use a utility like Rightmark to downclock the processor to keep the cpu from pushing itself too hard.

If you're having serious laptop overheat issues, I suggest you have it cleaned professionally before trying anything drastic. The pad won't really provide a permanent fix. How old is your laptop? Could be that the thermal paste between some of your components might have gone bad, but that could be beyond your technical capabilities to fix.

It's about 1 year now. It's alright for everything until I start gaming. I put a fan next to it and it works alright, I'd just rather have something to put underneath my comp instead. It's a short term fix until I get a proper gaming comp.

Get some canned air and blow the dust out. Might want to open it up, and get the harder to reach bits.

I've been using the wrong tool! Better go get me a Philips Bodygroom.

I'm looking for a lappy base fan that won't use up my USB socket.

Either get a USB hub, or start scouring gmarket/Danawa/technomart, or even the internets, yourself.
