Just wondering if anyone out there has some good suggestions for a computer that will be used for photography, videos and some CAD work.
I just fried my old motherboard for my Athlon X2 3gh CPU and am in need of a new computer. The old computer did relatively well but was slow for large images and detailed CAD work. I'm thinking I don't need to upgrade that much.
I'm thinking of:
Asus M4A88T-M LE motherboard
AMD AthlonII X3 455 CPU (3.3ghz)
4g DDR3
Asus G210 (512 mb cache)Silent video card (or a possible upgrade to the GT520 with 1G cache)
Any photo / graphic folks out there who think I should get the better video card and upgrade to a X4 CPU? Or are there some other things I should be looking at?
I'm not much of a computer guy and will be using my very first digital camera. Until now I've been using film and my Nikon Coolscan. I've also been using light CAD programs and would like to get something a little bit more powerful in the near future. |

You might be able to scrape by with that set-up but I'd say it's probably too under-powered for video and CAD work.
To be sure of smooth operation you should be spending roughly 250,000 on CPU. 250,000 on GPU. About 250,000 on 8GB of fast (1600mhz) DDR3 RAM. The RAM is very important for smooth video processing. |

Unfortunately I'm on a bit of a budget at the moment. My computer kind of blew up on me and I hadn't intended on upgrading for a while.
I can buy more RAM down the line if I need more, so for the moment I'm going to stick with 4GB. Between the GPU and the CPU, which would you spend your money on? |

First check with the software requirements.
Most likely the cpu is ok but you will need a decent video card. |

Check the buy/ sell/ trade forum. Saw a Phenom x4 w. xfire 4850 cards, all stable OC'd, aftermarket cooling all around for a very reasonable price. |
