Hopefully somebody has some useful information for me. At the end of September my wife, baby, in-laws and I will be taking an extended weekend trip to Beijing. This is our first time to Beijing and my mother-in-law's first time out of Korea. I am wondering if it is easy enough for a group this size, with a two year old, to take the bus from Beijing to Mutianyu section of the great wall? Or would it be feasible to arrange a driver for a group that size? What would that cost? Also, is there really that much difference between the Mutianyu section and the Badaling section? I don't want to be caught in a mob of tourists, but I don't want to have a major headache going to a more difficult to reach section. If the difference is really minor, I would rather go to the place that requires the least amount of work.

Also, through my research I have seen prices quoted in RMB and Chinese Yuan. Is that the same? When I am doing price conversions on xe.com, there isn't anything that says "RMB."

Thanks.

Badaling is more touristy (perhaps you want to ride up the hill instead of walk to the top of the wall.)

Both are pretty easy to get to and both are fairly cheap. If you want to hire a driver instead of take a "tour" then get your hotel desk to help you arrange it (unless you speak Chinese).

The Chinese currency is called Renminbi (People's money), often abbreviated as RMB, CNY and Yuan all the terms are synonymous; they refer to the same thing.

i just went for chuseok and was able to hire a private driver for 400 yuan (each way). There are several travel agencies around tianamen square once you arrive that can help you. It's a day trip leaving at 7am and returning around 4-5pm (if you take the standard bus tour). If you hire a private driver than you can leave and come back whenever you please.
