|
|
I teach mostly adults now (with a handful of middle/high school kids scattered amongst them) and my boss told me before the weekend that I've got a small kids' class starting tomorrow. There will probably be 3 of them, around elementary Grade 2 and 3. I think it's a brother and sister, and then one of their friends. My boss said their English is very good, but until I've talked to them, I'm not sure how high that means.
I've taught kids this age before, but not for a few years, so I'm a little rusty. I know after a few classes with them I'll be fine, but I'm always a little nervous before new classes so do any of you have any suggestions for activities to try with them? The class is 40 minutes long, 4 times a week.

Books like Let's Go Phonics, Magic Time, etc... Things that has a lot of pictures and tapes that kids can sing to. Very easy writing stuff that kids with small hands can use. Coloring activities, make a deck of cards with letters and pictures (d = duck, etc...) kids that age love games like memory match.
At that level, you are more entertaining than actually teaching. But when they start singing Old McDonald Had a Farm, naming colors and things like dog, cat--you will keep parents happy. Korean kids that age are very cute, but energy vampires!
If they are as advanced as you say, try some simple conversation. Maybe their favorite songs on YouTube. Favorite subjects, games where they have to use English like Scrabble Kids version. |
