| I have my file on at least 40 different recruiters lists, I know due to my inbox. They told me that they cannot send my resume more than once to schools. I have not received any contracts yet, and I have had my apostilled documents since August 7. Also, I have 4 years teaching experience and a CELTA degree, it can't be due to lack of experience, it can't be due to bad interviews, I've only had about 3-4. What am I doing wrong and what can I do to keep hagwons flushed with my resume? |

This is becoming a recurring thread on this board. Its obvious its becoming an employers market. The fact that there are job openings that are female only is proof of that in my opinion.
Where do you have teaching experience? |

| August 7th was less than a month ago. I think you are expecting things to happen too quickly. Try locating websites of Hagwons and send your resume directly. Unfortunately it is bad timing for any public schools. |

| Yes, you're right, female only is something I see often. I have teaching experience for four years in Texas and one month of ESL training teaching in Spain. And really, one month is too short? What can I expect as far as waiting for the right job due to this being an employers market right now? Is there anything I can say in interviews to make myself seem a perfect fit? I do love to teach kids, but I'm a male and they have mentioned that as a deterrent to hiring me. |

| My recruiters told me the same thing, that most jobs were going to females, probably because of the GEPIK situation. I agree with an above poster, try to find jobs directly through the companies. I found quite a few decent jobs on Dave's job postings. What worked for me was e-mailing the employers and MAKING SURE THEY KNEW that I had my documents in hand and was ready to depart immediately. |

| oh yeah one more thing, if you think you have an interested employer(s), I would be online all night/early morning (because of the time difference, you'd be on Korean work hours) e-mailing them, skyping them or whatever until they offer you a contract. I find it helped me tremendously because most of them have the "bali bali" mentality anyway. |

| Are you requesting only a certain area, like Seoul only? Seems like there are still jobs out there for Daegu and areas further south. Are the recruiters sending you jobs and you just don't like them or are you getting nothing? I am working with 12 recruiters and I have had 2 offers from Daegu, but opted to keep looking for something in Seoul. Also are you asking for too much or demanding things outside the contract? |

You have a CELTA degree?
If your cover letter and/or resume are as confused as your post I can see why you are not getting anything in spite of having your apostilled degree and CBC in hand.
At the moment it IS a flooded market in Korea (lots of GEPIK teachers were NOT renewed for the fall term so there is no shortage of teachers who are IN Korea at the moment. 30-60 days from now and things will be closer to the norm as the excess teachers move on, go home or get jobs.
IF you are in a rush, look at China; school starts soon and all decent jobs include housing, airfare allowance and most have a (not bad) wage for the area you will be in.
Taiwan is another option. You won't get airfare or housing but there are jobs and the pay/savings isn't bad.

Fast Forward - What resources are you using to locate jobs in Daegu?? That is where I am wanting to teach too, and have emailed some recruiters with not much luck yet. Any help = thanks! |

If I wasn't invested personally in Korea I would be in China already. There are a number of jobs paying 10k-12k yuan which is close to 2.0m won plus the contact hours are usually less (22 vs 30). Include the drastically reduced cost of living (outside of Shanghai/Beijing) and savings should be similar.

Are you just sending your stuff to recruiters, telling them 'Daegu' and hoping for a reply? They may say they work like this in their ads, but they don't.
You need to troll the job-sites for specific postings and then apply for a specific posting. They will forward your stuff to the schools immediately, because they don't give a shit about your qualifications just want their placement fee. If you don't hear back from the recruiter its because they haven't heard back from the school or the school doesn't want you.

Probably nothing. I'm in a similar situation. I have 9 years experience in Korea, TESOL, was Head Teacher/Education Director at my last job and I've had 1 interview. 90% of my emails have simply been ignored when applying for specific positions.
In that one interview I was offered the job but the Director wanted me to start the next day, without a Visa and refused to show me the contract.
Honestly I think if people can afford it they should just wait till January when all the schools will be advertising heavily for the new school year that starts in March. |

| I read through some of your old posts and it seems like you were quite particular about working hours and location. Is that still the case? Considering you don't have any experience in Korea it could be a problem...I see in another thread you found a job. Congrats! |

I just thought I would share my experience on this.. I got waitlisted by EPIK so started looking for a new job 4 days ago, and I am also married to a person from a non English speaking country which makes me even more undesirable according to my EPIK recruiter who basically made me feel like I was doomed in my search because I was married. I have 3 years experience teaching in Mexico and no Masters degree.
The first 2 days of my search I had emailed lots of recruiters and they started looking, 2 days later and I had 4 job offers in Busan, Ulsan, Daegu and Suncheon and the request of interviews for about 6 other jobs in other locations. So although perhaps it is a saturated market there are still jobs out there as long as you dont just focus on Seoul. |

It all depends on who you are.
If you're younger, female, attractive, good education then you'll get tons of offers.
If you're older, male, unattractive, then you probably won't get many replies. |

Wait, you need a minimum of two years experience to teach in China, right?
I'm new, I have all my apostille documents, and I'm ready to get up and go... unfortunately, I can't seem to find any places to get up and go to. |
