Hi,
I am working with a recruiter for a potential job at this school. I've tried to find any information on it and haven't had any luck. Does anyone know of this school and have any experiences to relate?
Thanks!

Working at Maple College was a wonderful experience for me. The owners of the school are amazing people. They are extremely accommodating and took care of me from the moment I got off the plane. They made sure the transition from Canada to South Korea was as easy and enjoyable as possible. The faculty and staff were very helpful and kind from day one. They were there to help me with everything and anything I needed in those early days until I got the hang of things. Maple College requires its students are taught from the highest quality textbooks from which the students benefit greatly. The students enjoy being there and are great to teach. Living accommodations are clean and ideal. My apartment was very close to the school and right next to the beach. I met all kinds of amazing people both in and outside of school. Overall I am very grateful I had the opportunity to teach at Maple College. |

Hmm. Why do I think of a hostage reading out a statement of his total agreement with the justice and mercy of his captors, while there is a gun to his back? |

I live in Gwangali beach two blocks from Maple. I also know the current teacher working there.
Don't you want to teach adults in the center of Seoul ? |

I currently work at Maple College, and have been here for three months so far. It's not a bad gig. Sometimes the hours suck, but you always get paid on time, the boss is AMAZING (his little wife is a different story but she doesn't speak English so you'll never have to deal with her), the staff is wicked friendly, there is a large foreign staff and many of the Korean teachers have studied abroad so can speak english well. You'll have to deal with the occasional brat, but overall the students are really sweet, some are hilarious, most are very hardworking. And location.. F-ing awesome. Literally a block from the beach, and within walking distance from the school. Feel free to PM for more info. |

Hello,
I just got hired at Maple College at Gwangalli Beach location. I am waiting on my visa, but should be arriving in a couple of weeks. Is anyone working there currently who can contact me so I can ask some questions and give me some more feedback on the school? I tried to PM but can't until I've made 25 posts...Thanks! |

Yeah I work there- welcome to the team! Is the branch location at Namcheon station? I can't pm you until I post 25 times as well... I'm a little hesitant about posting my personal information online, but I think I'm close to being able to pm you.. until then, I'm open to answer any questions you have! |

Hi, Thanks! I'm really excited to get over there, but am beginning to get nervous. I had a friend who arrived a week ago, and is having a terrible time with the school she's working for...I think she may be end up leaving soon. This made me a little worried and I just want to be 100% before I get there and potentially regret my decision. You say the hours suck sometimes, my recruiter told me I would be working 2:00-8:30pm...but this sounds too good to be true. I understand not wanting to put personal info on here. I have an old email address that I rarely use if you want to email me on it, Courtney6524@gmail. Thanks so much for your help, and I'm looking forward to talking with you soon! |

A few things:
1- You seem to have positive feedback from 2 people working at that school so thats a good indicator.
2- You will never be 100% before leaving. You will really have to accept the fact and accept that there is a fair share of unknown in moving abroad but heck thats part of the adventure!
3- Your friend: one-week is not sufficient time to make an evaluation of a job. There could be many reasons for him/her to be stressed: culture shock, growing pains of teaching for the first time in his/her life....
4- Remember this (in relation to that 100% thing): plans rarely survive contact with reality, meaning you can set things up as much as you want and get all the feedback you want but when you actually get there (Korea) lots of things will happen that you did not plan for or expect. From the looks of things you removed one of the biggest pitfalls by getting solid information on your work location, the rest will be the normal growing pains of adapting to life in a new country ahlfway across the world!!!
Good luck and as someone who lived in Busan from 1997 to 2008 and who visits there every year, I wish you the best! Pm me for any questions on Busan (that goes for any new Busan resident in here) and I will gladly help in any way I can.
Cheers. |

You should work the hours listed in your contract. (I bet the hours are different!) The hours you heard are probably actual teaching hours. |
