Posting this on behalf of a friend:

Are you legally entitled to severance pay even if you signed a contract with a clause saying you agree to give it up? Hopefully someone out there has experience with this situation.

Yes. Severance pay is mandatory under Korean Labor Law. Such a clause would be illegal and null and void. Of course that depends on whether your friend has finished an entire year and was working legally all that time.
