Something is wrong with the arbitrary prices for these checks.

I employ teachers, and have some experience in doing health checks.

Today we had some experience with trying to get it done.

Hospital 1 : No reservation required -- 95.000 won
Hospital 2 : Reservation required -- 150.000 won
Hospital 3 : Reservation required -- 35.000 won

Why should a mandatory health check have such difference in price and service?

Different hospitals charge different prices?

Duh.

You have to go to an "Approved" hospital/clinic for the medical check.
I went in July and it was around 90,000.
I'd say the 3rd hospital doesn't do everything required for E2 visa health check

Are you out of your mind.

You don't think I would have inquired about that?

Yes they do.

I guess most of you are missing the point.

1. It's a mandatory test, means you have no choice, you have to do it.
2. It is also done in order to get a health insurance, good for Korea as a whole.
3. Prices and Quality are of huge difference that it is easy to show that hospitals are using it as a profit making machine, rather then providing a service to the people.

It became very obvious to me that the whole mandatory health check is a scam that the government willingly allows the hospitals here to pull on foreigners. My first job (private elementary) only required the test when immi required it. At first it was paid by the school, but they got wise to this, and I believe they started passing the cost to the teachers after I left. The year I left, one teacher paid W25,000 for his.

I now work at PS, which requires a health check every year, even though immi does not. Also, you must get it from one of the approved hospitals, ant I have been quoted W90,000 and up. The first year was significantly cheaper. The only thing that seems to change is that the hospitals look fancier, aren't any faster, and charge more and more for their services every year. International health care clinics in this country are making a lot of cash from teachers.

Juregen, can you please tell us the name of the least expensive hospital so that those of us who need to pay for these tests ourselves can save ourselves some money?

The problem is that it is outside of Seoul, in Namyangju, pretty far.

I am actually thinking of doing something a little bit more extensive, e.g. get a list of the "approved hospitals" and call them all.

This way we get a nice comparison of prices, and then I might be able to make am issue out of it. If I find the time.

Usually, you pay more for a health check to be done sooner. If you wait, it is cheaper. Unless you already asked about that, this is probably what is happening.

It also seems to depend on where you get it done. My first time near Seoul was 90k and my second time, in a small town, was only 20k. I don't think there's really any way to solve the problem, they're businesses who can charge whatever they want.

Wrong again

I double checked the 35.000 won and they can go ANYTIME, First come first served.

There you go.

No, they cannot. Prices are regulated in South Korea.
