|

I've heard the HBC festival is having a hard time this year. Don't know the specifics. I have heard there is a festival happening in Cheonan on the weekend of the 1st of October. It's the long weekend so people can take a break from Seoul but still see some great bands.

Good to hear the HBC Festival is still happening, albeit in a slightly altered form. That means two great festivals are happening in October. |

well as 3 year HBC resident and talking to many of my foreign neighbors, we werent happy about the HBC fest because of the noise, foreign drunks acting like idiots etc (one of my friends would be sitting on his porch hosing down drunks who tried to piss on his front gate) if something was done about some of that i think most of us would have lived with the fest (though most of us get away those weekends). remember folks HBC is still a residential neighborhood and not itaewon
but if the fest was shut down because of jealous koreans, thats a whole different story. its also so typical of them |

I've never had a very good time at HBC fest. There are supposed to be so many bands, but the crowds ensure you will never see them. There are many people (ALL dodging the traffic on the street). No special outside food or booze stalls to speak of. I just don't get it. It would be better if they managed to close the street. Until that happens, I won't be there. Better to stay at Craftworks and drink gobs of good beer. |

Two? There's way more than that. Don't forget Ssamzie Sound Fest, the Ulsan World Music Festival, Global Gathering, Grand Mint Festa, and Ever Green Music Festival.
The Cheonan one has a lot of great Korean bands, so I don't think it'll be catering to the same people who went to HBC Fest. |

I can understand your frustration. It's never nice having drunken morons ruining your neighbourhood. Whoever the idiot was who was jumping on buses last time deserved to be arrested. What a douche!
The Cheonan festival seems to be in an area that is not residential so hopefully that will keep people happy. It's also the first time it's ever been put on so I hope people from all over Korea go and make it a great event. It's organized by a foreigner but it is in conjunction with Korean owned businesses which is nice to see. I'm definitely going to go. |

There's nothing wrong with getting drunk. It's just a couple of bad apples that ruin it for everyone. |

Guys...I can tell you now that this article is absolute horse-s**t. Look, Lance essentially made the Yongsan-gu police look like idiots because he didn't inform them of the small fact that 5000 people would be crowding a major Seoul artery for 7 hours. If you didn't notice, when the Korean police came out, they were actually fairly nice considering that they suddenly had to be bused in to deal with a bunch of drunks.
This situation rankles me a little because after fermentation celebration, one of the Yongsan-gu officers I worked with definitely told me that HBC fest would be a major factor for them hassling any foreigner event in HBC from this point forward.
The yongsan police force basically just wanted to be in the loop and that's what the organizers failed to do.
All of that said, it's not an apology for how they're behaving now. It's an over reaction because now they don't want to look like idiots in front of their bosses. |
