I'm looking for a place to get my hair cut. There are several recommendations on the forum, but few have directions. Is there a Blue Club or something else good around Gangnam or Yeoksam station? I'd rather not go all the way out to Itaewon or Hongdae. Cheap is good, English speaking not necessary if there are some magazines or pictures I can point at. |

Perhaps I should have said "acceptable," not "good." Is Blue Club not? It was recommended several times in other posts. |

I've seen it recommended, and I've seen those recommendations questioned time and time again. When anyone between the age of ten and sixty jokes about how awful a place is to get your haircut, it's probably a place to be avoided. |

Well then, do you have a recommendation, or are you just here to bash blue club? |

I've always gotten decent haircuts going to any of the major chains (Park Jun's, etc.). You spend 15,000 instead of 5,000, but you don't need to get a second haircut to fix the first one. |

Do you know where one of those is located around Gangnam/Yeoksam? I haven't actually seen any of these places around. |

Out of curiosity, why don't you use the haircut as an excuse to explore your neighborhood and see what is there. Some people's reccomendations may not result in your being satisfied. |

I think wandering into one of the holes in the wall around my neighborhood would more likely result in my not being satisfied. I have explored my area, and there isn't anything that looks promising in my general vicinity. That's why I asked for recommendations. No offense, but it really is amazing how many responses I can get, while none of them attempt to answer my question. |

I also need to get a haircut soon or I'll have an 80's hair band. What the heck do you do to convey your message of how you want your hair? |

I was planning on either bringing a picture if I can find one, or just pointing at one in a magazine that looks all right. Then again, I get a pretty basic haircut, and I'm not that picky. I don't know about you.
I got my hair cut all the time in Egypt by guys who didn't speak any English, and hand gestures always worked fine. I just want to make sure I'm going somewhere where the barber at least half knows what he/she is doing, not some ajumma who only knows how to do an ajumma perm. |

Getting a haricut can be a pain. First, look at all the people around you. THOSE are the haircuts barbers/stylists here know how to do. One thing most of them have in common is the long hair in the back - not a mullet, but on its way.
I usually tell the people that I want it like a soldier, but a bit longer. I make extra care to point out I want the back short too, otherwise I'll have to be back in a week or two.
I asked a coworker for a place and she directed me to the place I used for two years. When I moved, I used Juno. They were pricier, 25,000 but that comes with the double shampoo and free drink. They are really "showy" IMO. My barber back home, i'd be in out and done in about 10 minutes. He was quick and efficient. Here, they like to take their sweet time.
OP, you know how to use Naver/Hangeul? That's the best way. Search for 미용실 and whatever area you want - best to do it by station. A map should pop up and show you all the places. If you don't know, mi-yong-sil means stylist/hair salon - you're NOT going to find a barber. No one except old men go to barbers, and even though it's all I ever went to in the US, trust me, you want a stylist here. Barbers are more like your drunken friends with a trimmer on a dare. |

I've actually done pretty well doing this at random hair shops, and I'm rather picky. The issue with Blue Club is that they have a standard issue bowl cut that they give to everyone and they're seriously not trained. The two ajumma corner places will serve you better, but be firm. |

I liked the atmosphere of Juno and the service, but the barber put a bee hive on the top of my head when he was done. The cut looked good and the barber took his time, but when it came to the styling part it was all down hill from there. After he was done, he thought it was a masterpiece....I washed that wax out ASAP. Why can't Korean barbers use the clippers on the sides and back...Stop trying to cut the sides and back with scissors!! Give me a nice fade on the sides and back and leave a little on the top. |

For some reason they dislike using the clippers on the sides. Be forceful and they will (and it helps if you have a Korean with you). |
