Just a question for those of you with an M.A. in TESL -- where did you get it? Did you attend an actual brick and mortar university in Asia, or did you do it online via correspondence? |

Got mine at San Jose State. Was rather fun to attend classes and do the readings and writings, but then, I like being a student. |

Did I mean TESOL?
University of Ottawa offers a M.A. TESL...
I was just wondering if anyone has gotten an M.A. related to TESL online. |

U of O offers a MA TESL (teaching English as a Second Language) designed for teaching learners in an immersible environment (immigrants).
Others like the U of Calgary offer a M.Ed TESL (similar but not the same - education degree).
There are others (like Trinity Western in BC) who offer an MA TESOL (teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) with the focus (at least mine was) and theory more on teaching in a non-immerse environment (working in a non-English speaking country).
YOUR choice of a masters program should depend largely on what YOU want to do (since you are working on becoming an expert in some branch of the field) after your studies are completed (research, post secondary teaching, continuation into academia, etc).

Is there any way for me to do it in South Korea, Japan, or Hong Kong? I've Google'd around but nothing seems "reputable". I almost feel like all online M.A. TESOL are fake.
I've heard a few good things about University of Leicester for distance education.

Birmingham, Aston, Leicester, Sheffield Hallam and Portsmouth offer distance programs from the UK.
I think Sheffield is the cheapest I've seen, but none of the modules really interest me.
Nottingham offer a campus based masters in Malaysia if that's something you want to try out. I think Lancaster also offer a program in Hong Kong. |

Did mine online. The program was good, but I've now heard that two of the top profs from it have been hired away by some very high-ranking schools... apparently, they were doing something right.
Not sure what's left. |

I came from the U of O so I know several people doing that program. Great school and nice small town (as long as you don't have hayfever allergies) and the program is rock-solid. Another nice perk is that you can take classes at Hanyang University and have it count towards your MA in TESOL. They also offer regular TESOL Certificates, but I'd just go for the MA, the perks are far better from holding a Master's. |

I've put together a list of online MA courses. Might be handy for others....
Some of the courses mentioned here, on that list. http://bit.ly/pJUzjq
