|
|
Received a call from Immigration last week to inform me that my F5 application had been approved and that I could collect my Passport and Visa on July 1st.
History:
Had an E2 from January 2006 to January 2011.
Applied for the F2-99 and received it 5 weeks later.
Applied for the F5 on March 3rd. Will collect it July 1st. Just shy of 4 months to receive this Top Dog of a Visa !!!
On the plus side...I can now sponsor my Philippina wife an F2.
Just so there is no confusion, I obtained both the F2 and F5 on my own merit. I am not married to a Korean.
Life is GOOD. |

God for you but don't you mean you can sponsor your wife to a F3 (dependant visa) as opposed to a F2 (resident visa)? |

An F5 holder can sponsor his/her spouse for an F2. As far as I know this is the only visa where this is possible. It really is as close as you can be to a Korean citizen without actually being one. |

r122925 is 100% correct on the above.
When I was on an E2, I could only sponsor my wife an F3.
On my F2 she changed her Visa to an F1.
On the F5, we have the same rights and privileges as a Korean National. That is the right to sponsor our spouse and children an F2. Come to think of it, my children will get an F5 right out of the box. Trying for kids at present. Too much info....I know...but what the hell...I am in a good mood.
The only thing we cannot do, is vote in elections. |

Actually, you CAN vote in local elections (mayor, city council, etc) but you can't vote for anything on the national level like the president or the national assembly. |

Sorry if you've posted this elsewhere, but did you need to apply for (and receive) the F5 after you had gotten the F2-99? |

I got my F2-99 first. I could have applied for the F5 direct, but from experience, taking the front door approach seldom works in Korea.
Besides, getting the F2 was, in my case, a better idea. It only took 5 weeks to get this Visa.
The F5 took 4 months. |

Thanks for your reply. It seems I accidentally left out "what" from my question the first time around - I had intended to ask what you needed to do/submit to get the F5 after you received the F2-99. Sorry for the trouble. |
