I am coming over to Seoul in about a month and a half and I am just curious as to how the different areas compare and what they are like. Don't know where I am headed yet exactly within the city, but places like Kangnam, Mokdong and Ilsan seem like viable destinations. Anybody that has any input into the city itself and what different areas have to offer would be a great help. THANKS! |

That's a really big topic- I suppose you might get more input if you're more specific? Or just do a search on the areas you're thinking about.

Alright, how about just starting with one area. What does anybody know about Mokdong in particular?? Is it clean, nice, fun, boring? You know what I mean, any help would be great. |

Mokdong is a great place to do some ice skating and play pick-up hockey with a bunch of foreigners I hear. |

I have heard you can play hockey there. So, I am for sure packing my skates, stick and gloves to get into some games. |

www.seoulcitychiefs.com is a hockey team made up of mostly foreigners but some Koreans who play out of Mokdong Ice Hockey Rink. I was generally suprised to find hockey existed in Korea but i'm like you i'm making sure some hockey gear is packed, going to be a good way for me to get into shape.. |

This site has a Wicked Interactive Map - Hell I could even focus in on the building where my apartment was when I was there.
It's pretty cool. Then again I was a geography major. |

Lived in Mok-dong. A pretty nice place. Things to do. Excellent positioning within the subway system. Words of wisdom: Do not work outside of the Seoul area. Small town Korea ain't cool. |

I'm in a small town that's about 1 hour into downtown seoul. There are really nice places to go walking/running and the people are super friendly... but if I wasn't living in a building with a bunch of my friends I don't know if it would be so good. |

I have it great here in Kaepo, Kangnam. There is still cheap housing available in the Jugong areas, in the shadow of the new/chic Tower Palace and Acrovilles, as it were. If you're here for a year or so, request this area; it's set to be razed and replaced in about three years. Here, Seoul is green, along the Yangjae stream (which has bike paths) and all around the Jugong apartment complexes; it's clean, esp. compared to other parts of the city and even of Kangnam; the subway now reaches the outer areas of Kaepo on the Pundang line and on line 3 at Dogok and Daechi; the air is fresher than the rest of Kangnam as it's at the edge of the "gu" and borders Kuryoung and Daemo "mountains" (280m max).
Downtown Kangnam (Line 2 stations) is minutes from here by bus, taxi, subway, etc. You could even bike to work in Chungdam or Apkujung via the aforementioned Yangjae stream, although the 8+km might leave you in need of a shower.
All in all, best place in Seoul. |
