Strongly considering and most likely will take a job in the dangsan area of yeongdeungpo. Haven't heard too much about the area. Anyone have experience there? |

Dangsan is considered a somewhat dirty, poor area. It's slowly getting developed though. So the rent is usually cheaper.
It's two stops IIRC from Hongdae and the Han River is close by. Also close to Mokdong. |

Just because you live in an area doesn't mean you have to hang out there (and many who live near certain entertainment areas end up not hanging out there much).
Dangsan is close to Sinchon, Hongdae and downtown Seoul. It's not the best neighborhood but it's pretty close to everything. |

Yes, Dangsan 'was' considered a dirty, cheap area but since they now have 2 subway lines a lot of money has (and continues) to be spent on it. Remarkable considering that it is right on the river and close access to Hongdae etc.
If I had the money I would have bought property there a couple of years ago. Because in a few years time I can see the rent going up there quite considerably once it has been cleaned up more.
Yeongdeungpo is a very working area, with bars, markets and many places to experience that special kind of service.
You could consider Mokdong 5 complex (Danji) as it is just across the stream from Dangsan. I lived there for 2 years in a modern officetel on the 13th floor. The rent was 700,000won per month. I am not sure about the rent in Dangsan but maybe the quality might not be as high. But I am only assuming. |

dangsan is a decent area to live. the area near the subway stop (line 9 and 2) is quite built up and has tons of restaurants and korean style bars.
there's a big shopping comples, times square, that has a movie theatre, emart and lot of pricey shops. also a costco not too far away.
if you're close to the subway, you'll have good access to most of seoul. line 2 will take you to hongdae/sinchon in a few minutes. and the express train from line 9 can get you to gangnam in about 20 minutes. |

Yeongdeongpo is an area on the up and up, with probably the nicest mall in the country and a gleaming department store. That said, it's still pretty rundown besides that. |

D-Cube Mall holds a bit of promise as it hosted a Southeast Asian culture event this past weekend. The Sheraton also has a branch there. |

How much do you think the attached apartments cost? |

i live in yeongdeongpo and it's chill. don't expect that many foriengers, around me at least it's mostly korean office workers, and a lot of machinery / small industry, i guess from a while back. it's close to hongdae though like people say, rent is cheaper and costcos just down the road. sweet |

I suppose it depends on where exactly you live in Yeongdeungpo, but according to the government statistics more foreigners live in Yeongdeungpo-gu than any other "gu" in Seoul. Granted, many of these are Chinese and not white Westerners, but there are many many foreigners living in Yeongdeungpo. |
